wtf, sub - subsonic f, sealed???

i just built a 1.85 cube sealed box for my 15"sx... turned my subsonic filter off, and my SX doesn't move smoothly AT ALL until i turn the subsonic filter on 25htz or so.. i thought you didn't need the subsonic filter when you go sealed?????

dunno? theres not much material recorded below 25 hz so if the sub moves at all it probably shouldnt? try running test tones? 80-15 hz,with the ssf off and on @ 25

it's hard to explain... the sub doesn't move smoothly in and out like when i have the subsonic filter on... it's very rough looking... ike it's trying to produce tones it isn't supposed to...

What does it sound like? Can you hear the sub reaching its mechanical limits at all?

when i first played music (without the ssf on), it had ahell of a lot more excursion than i have ever seen it do ported.. maybe because it's actually hitting the lows??? it could have possibly been nearing it's mechanical limits... maybe try playing some tones and turning the gain down?? my gain is maybe a hair over a 1/4? no bass boost...

Actually this is really simple.

Sub sounds good with SSF set at 25hz.

Sub sounds bad with SSF turned off.

haha i agree, just was wondering why on earth it's doing this with the ssf off Sealed... i was told i could get lower going sealed... i haven't...

A larger sealed box should give a slightly lower response, but the sub itself will have its own "personality" and just maynot like playing the ultra low frequencys.

Couple examples-

Eclipse 8700 and Infinity perfect- both would play the ultra lows really well.

MTX8000 and Pioneerspl- both would not play the ultra lows really well.

Not a flaw, they all sounded really nice, its just a characteristic of the speaker.
