Would you ever not install your own gear?

Like say you bought a really nice car or a rebuilt really clean old car. Would you ever consider taking it to a shop and letting them do it because if they **** it up, its on them or would you never let a shop touch it..

just curious how confident you all are in your install abilities.

Right now, being only 22 and in car audio for a out 5 years, I would let a shop do it AFTER reviewing their work. I want to get good enough that I will do every install. Also, I don't have all the tools that are helpful but not absolutely needed. Luckily, my dad and his friends do, so I do installs for people every time I visit.

i'm an installer. i see all you guys that talk **** about how shops don't know anything than i see your crap install and than you try getting me to install an alarm b/c you're retarded. than i get to hear the 1 million reasons how you'd do it yourself but you don't have time, which is bs b/c you can't even identify a relay much less wire one up.

I do my own...I want to know where every wire goes, and rcas ect. Nohalf azzed chits!! Ive seen some really messed up installs over the years.I even stayed at a shop passed closing for a kid that was getting screwed on a half azzed install pretending to be his brother and my car

Well my next step will be getting a new car and then glassing up pods for 3 ways and i keep asking myself...Do i have the skill to start molding/fiberglassing into my doors/a pillars.

Its all a bit..intimidating.

I had a shop do my car for a few reasons.

I didnt have time

All the work was done by the owner himself and I helped when I could be there

I don't have tools to fab anything and it would cost more to get them than he charged

The owner had many wins in the category I was in when North West Florida use to have a lot going on.

He took a ton of pictures for me

He hooked me up on the equipment

It's a new car that I wanted to look new when it was over

I **** at woodwork

Saying this I choose the shop wisely. I went to every shop in town and interviewed them. Most tried to offer me a prefab

When he said "I haven't got to do a install like this in a long time" with a smile on his face I know it was going to be good.

My latest install was done at a shop, simply because I had back surgery about a year ago, and I really don't enjoy contorting my self the way you need to sometimes while you're trying to figure out where and how to route that wire. They did a very good install, plus one of my co-workers sons works there.
