would you do: 2 Shiva 12s or 1 Koda 10?

At Visionary Audio, shivas are 115 each and a koda 10 is 230. So which would be a better move? I listen to rap, classic rock, and pop. A good variety that I pretty much play at random. I want a good all-around system for all music (except opera and jazz, don't do that). I like tight punchy bass that kicks me in the chest. I prefer that to low, rumbling stuff (which I still don't mind). So would two shivas or one koda 10 give me a better kick in the chest and sound great doing it? Sorry if this is redundant, but do sealed boxes best give punch I'm looking for? And I'll power it with whatever amp works best.

Koda = XBL^2 tech. which is the same used in the XXX and Brahma... so its gonna sound good. I havent heard either of them but the Shiva's will give you more output (SPL) just because of the more cone area. Someone with the shiva's will have to tell you...

Well, if you could please explain the different results of the different set ups then I'd be able to choose one.

And no, the Shivas do NOT have the XBL^2 technology.

bottom line, are you an audiophile that needs top notch sound or do you want a little bang for your buck. I listen to the same kind of music that you do and personally I would rather have two shivas than one koda....in my setup, I run two tempest and if you have enough room for them, I would spend the extra $50 and move up to tempest.

2 12" Shiva's are gonna give you alot of SPL and a decent amount of SQ just because of the Cone area. (16.6mm XMAX one way)

1 10" Koda is going to give you great SQ and some decent output with 18mm XMAX (one way)...

the shiva's also take more power i think.

like i said though ask around for how the Shiva's sound i havent heard 'em, and i dont know if any one on this board has the koda 10's yet. ss3079 has 2x Shiva's... talk to him.

Basically, the Koda may sound a bit better than the shivas, but the shivas will pretty much blow it away in volume. Shivas also sound very freaking good. The install will most likely have more of an affect on the sound than the sub will.

Apoc- I'm a car audio noob that just started getting into it. I have hardly even heard many subs at all. All I know is I like what they can do and I don't want to waste my money on cruddy subs that I'll love at first, but then grow to hate as I get used to them. I've learned from my RC car hobby that buying cheap costs more in the long run. I want decent stuff from the start that I probably won't be able to appreciate until farther down the road when I realize how much better my system is than other people's.

As for the tempest, that would 1. cost more money ($70 more for two tempests than two shivas) and 2. I am weary about 15" subs. I know they can pound, but I want stuff to sound good. I don't listen solely to rap. In fact, I'm growing out if it. I hear often that 15s sound worse than 12s and 10s.

skeptikal & nosaj070- That's what I was expecting. I would think from my limited knowledge that I wouln't be able to hear much of a difference between a koda and two shivas but more importantly 2 12s would pound a lot harder than one 10.

Thats a myth, I guarantee you a XXX 15 sounds better than a Kicker CVR 10.

Yes, 15's can sound very good...I'm actually getting better response from mine ported than I was from 2 12's sealed.

As far as your decison goes however, I would choose the shivas....I don't think that a single 10 will be loud enough for you, especially being new to the scene and not knowing how to work with the install enough to make it really kick.

if it was me i would go with 2 Shiva's or 1 tempest in ported box's tuned low with very little power 400 watts it plenty

i have one tempest at the moment in my truck and it hits hard sounds awesome. when i get the second one installed it should be more than enough bass with great sq

down side for two tempest big azz box

1 tempest= 4 cubes @ 27 Hz

How would one RE SE 10" compare with one Koda 10" in terms of SPL? I know the Koda will probably whip it in SQ, but i wonder which hits harder considering one uses half the power and costs more.
