3 cubes is definitely too big for a type R... not "tight" at all at that point.i have a single 10" type r in a seald .75cu ft enclosure and it hits low and loud. cabin gain plays a big role on how the bass sounds and re-enforces the low end bass.
i would put it in a
3cu ft enclosure
tuned to 25Hz
F3=22Hz
w/slot port 12" x 3.5" x 54.50" long.
that will cover you whole subfreqs, tight and loud. the sub wont bottom out and you wont get port noise either.
sorry my bad, about tuning n stuff,i dont get your question.
the sad part is my hockey gear cost about 2-3 times as much as my car audio stuffCome on man a sub is way better than hockey stuff.
i built that enclosure for a friend about 8 month ago, it hit the low with out bottoming out and it went pretty flat till 120Hz nice and loud. just had to play a little bit with the EQ to get it right, is not an spl system for sure, but for sq was great. and it got loud. he sold that system and is saving up for another one design and built by me. for a dual 12" type r set up. may be this time well go for an spl system.3 cubes is definitely too big for a type R... not "tight" at all at that point.
what was your tuning freq? did you brace it right. how many fold did you have on the port? what width MDF did you use? did you beveled the corners? there are allot of factors that can make an enclosure go boomy. the port and enclosure volume combination along with how well the enclosure got built will make a difference on how the sub/enclosure will sound. sub EQ makes a difference too most people don't use them. there are allot of factors that can make enclosure go to crap. design it right and build it better. ps: its not all way about spl. SQ is what i build. with the right sub, enclosure and amp combination you can have a hella loud system that was designed for SQ. also the vehicle that goes in will make a difference as well, some vehicle resonate not at just one freq but at a couple different ones. that's when you tune it with the eq ones the enclosure is in the car.if you say so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I've tried a 3 cube box with the 12 R's.. and it was very peaky and very boomy.
I might, sorta, almost know how to make a box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I've tried lots of variations on many many size boxes... and anything past approx 2.5 cubes the type R just didn't sound too hot in.what was your tuning freq? did you brace it right. how many fold did you have on the port? what width MDF did you use? did you beveled the corners? there are allot of factors that can make an enclosure go boomy. the port and enclosure volume combination along with how well the enclosure got built will make a difference on how the sub/enclosure will sound. sub EQ makes a difference too most people don't use them. there are allot of factors that can make enclosure go to crap. design it right and build it better. ps: its not all way about spl.
