Number of woofers

Need help on deciding on how many woofers to run. I got a 95 mitsubishi eclipse and I'm not sure on if I want to run 2 (15inch) or 4 (12inch) subs. The system I'm putting together is for spl. One guy was only saying that all I need to run is 3 (12inch) woofers that is enough cone area. That will knock my head off he said. But I would like somemore opinions. The subs I'm thinking about running is eclipse 9100 series, infinity perfects, or treo subs. Let me know what is the best way to go...

4 12's louder than 2 15's...2 15's louder than 3 12's...generally. of course power, actual woofer, and some other specs come into play. this is just based on cone area, so you have to take it with a grain of salt. i USED to have 2 15's...it was loud enough for me, and just about everyone else i knew

haha, its been a long time. my whole system is done about. subs sold a long time ago, my orion 4004 took a shit on me and took out one of my cdt's and all the other shits sold. all i got left is the alpine. BUT im gonna start up another system. ive been reading up lot about these type r's and i wouldnt mind comparing them to my old sx's so i might give them a shot but for some reason i cant get the thought out of my head that they could be louder but hey, well see.
