Would I be better off... (ported box baffle question)

Ok so I've decided I wanna switch from my JL 12w3 to the Kicker CVR 12... but, since my box is made for a 12w3, I'm gonna have a few problems. I came up with 2 options -

1. Would I be better off cutting the extra 1/8 inch of MDF off around the circle (the CVR says it has a mounting hole thing of 11.125 whereas the JL is 11 flat I think) and drilling new holes so I can mount the sub upright? If I did that, would I be able to seal the holes where the JL was?

2. Or would I be better off cutting the carpet off the box, making a new baffle all together, made specifically for the CVR (keep in mind I have almost no experience with box building), put that baffle on, and recarpet the whole box?

Or I could just mount them like diagonally, but I dont wanna look like a noob haha. either way i'd still have to cut the 1/8 inch off. idk.

If you cut an 1/8" off, you would have 11.25" diameter instead of 11.125".

If you're set on replacing it, your best bet is to see if it fits as is. If not, grab some 40 grit sand paper and sand the edges until it fits. It doesn't take too long to sand the opening 1/16".

Wow, I totally didn't think of that, I would have completely ****ed my baffle up haha. The final question - what about the stock mounting holes? Will it work to seal those up or am I ok leaving them open? (I wanna drill the new holes so I can mount the sub upright, and the kickers have them at different positions)

and if I put the JL back in, is the extra 1/16 on all the edges gonna make it leak?

The extra sanding done to the baffle will not have a huge effect on the w3.

The holes can be left alone but if you're really worried about it, get some wood glue and either golf tees or toothpicks. Then lube them up and slide them in tight! After the glue dries (30 minutes to an hour), you can break off the excess wood and sand it flush. I have done this in the past and it works very well.
