would going sealed help?

also just from what i have heard(never actually heard or even seen an RSD sub) the rsd's have a little bit of a bloated bottom end to begin with. so that will kind of take away the tight punchy sound needed to really kill the double bass.
they are outstanding on bottom end...specially for $65 per sub and 10's....got vids if u haven't seen them

same here. i absolutely love how my sub/box sounds.... and thats what matters. but i also am pretty sure if i was to RTA it i could get it so sound pretty flat if i wanted to. if probably does have a little bit of an exaggerated bottom end, but FAR less that my last sub/box had. my goal was to make it sound both loud and clear for rock/metal and i succeeded. my whole system sounds insane on metal.
You definately get bonus points for building with rock/metal in mind instead of rap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

My best system for rock/metal was actually a ported setup. A gaggle of re8's in a medium sized ported around 33hz in my s10. To me that walked all over my FI q 15 in a larger box ported around 28hz I had in my f150 for rock songs.

I'm still going to try sealed this time around though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

yup, screw rap!!

i know exactly what ya mean. my last setup (in the same car) was a Treo SSi ten ported to Treo's specs. the Treo SSi was a real nice expensive higher end sub(they cost $300). it was in 1.75 cubic feet after displacement tuned to 35hz. it sounded great on rap and got pretty loud but wasn't cutting it for rock/metal which is what i listen to 95% of the time. so i needed something else.

my current setup is totally different but in a good way. it sounds great on all music.

If I were you, I would do a small ported box tunned really low (28-30hz). I was on the same boat you were on to begin with about wanting to go sealed. I actually did do an SI Mag sealed and it was nice, but I wanted a little more output.

My philosophy was to build a ported box (that Immacomputer designed) that was slightly smaller than the measurements recommended for my subs (ported) and tuned it to 30hz. I absolutely love it! It hits quick and gets real low. Works great for all types of music. It's exactly what I wanted: the accuracy and cleanliness of a sealed box, but with the output of a ported.

X2! sounds exactly like my box! the accuracy and cleanliness of sealed, but with the output and bottom end extension of ported. small ported boxes FTW!
