I have heard plenty of sealed systems that have a peaky frequency response and are no where near flat. They usually are lacking a ton of low end too.since having a flat frequency response has a lot to do with sq, and since sealed boxes usually have a much flatter response vs ported setups, run sealed...
usually being the key word. design the ported box properly and it'll have a flatter response than sealed and roll off much later.since having a flat frequency response has a lot to do with sq, and since sealed boxes usually have a much flatter response vs ported setups, run sealed...
yup, just making sure the OP and anybody else reading knew that.i know and thats why i said, USUALLY

Couldn't transfer function put a hump in frequency response down low on your ported box, actually exaggerating the bottom end? Is your frequency response plotted in a computer program or from an RTA to get that f3?a properly designed ported box can sound just as good as a sealed box. it'll just have more bottom end extension. for example my ported box the f3 is at 28hz. the same sub in the same size sealed box rolls off at around 45hz. waaaaay to early.
thats out of the car. i'd rather have to EQ some out then try to add some back with the EQ if needed. i have not yet RTA'd my system. i would love to though in the future.Couldn't transfer function put a hump in frequency response down low on your ported box, actually exaggerating the bottom end? Yup, just goes to show some people like different sound and different approaches to getting to their end goal. Sometimes people don't always like things flat, some people like exaggerated low end, some like more top end. No one box is perfect, or even good for everybody and every car.thats out of the car. i'd rather have to EQ some out then try to add some back with the EQ if needed. i have not yet RTA'd my system. i would love to though in the future.
same here. i absolutely love how my sub/box sounds.... and thats what matters. but i also am pretty sure if i was to RTA it i could get it so sound pretty flat if i wanted to. if probably does have a little bit of an exaggerated bottom end, but FAR less that my last sub/box had. my goal was to make it sound both loud and clear for rock/metal and i succeeded. my whole system sounds insane on metal.Yup, just goes to show some people like different sound and different approaches to getting to their end goal. I think if alot of low ported guys got on an RTA, in car, the results might be interesting. A sealed box might not roll off way to early. I would really love to get access to an RTA to test out ported and sealed boxes in my vehicle just for fun and to see the results.
I'm not building to get a flat response because I honestly don't know what that sounds like, I'm just building to get to what my ears like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ported can sound just as good on any music if you use the right sub in the right box with the right tuning. i never thought a ported box could sound as tight and clear as my current one does. this thing seriously kicks like a mofo on metal and will keep up with any double bass you throw at it guaranteed.I love my flat response box
IMO, sealed sounds way better for rock/metal
yea....mine doesn't quite pick up the double clearly, but it does pick it up...i also am not running enough power:crap:ported can sound just as good on any music if you use the right sub in the right box with the right tuning. i never thought a ported box could sound as tight and clear as my current one does. this thing seriously kicks like a mofo on metal and will keep up with any double bass you throw at it guaranteed.
also just from what i have heard(never actually heard or even seen an RSD sub) the rsd's have a little bit of a bloated bottom end to begin with. so that will kind of take away the tight punchy sound needed to really kill the double bass.yea....mine doesn't quite pick up the double clearly, but it does pick it up...i also am not running enough power:crap:
