wiring speakers and amp

im new to aftermarket installs and self installs

is each channel on a 4 channel amp an individual load? so if i have a 4 channel amp and 4 4 ohm speakers the total load will be 4 ohms a channel or 1 ohm on the entire amp? Im using the rockford fosgate p400-4 which is NOT 1 ohm stable. For speakers im running 4 SPR-17C's ALpine type R 6-1/2 coaxials

Each channel combined with speaker is in series thus 4 ohm load per channel.

However if i wire 2 speakers into one channel that is in parellel and will lower the load?

Am i figuring this basic wiring right?

4 channel is like having 4 separate amps. Each channel handles it's own load, so you would have 4 channels running at 4 ohms each.

If you wire 2 speakers into one channel it will change the load on the amp, depending on how you wire them it could go up or down. At your skill level, I recommend you NOT do this.

ok thanks i wasn't planning on it i'm just building my system and wasn't sure if it was in series or parallel with the amplifier.

well when your talking about regular speakers and a 4 channel amp you shouldn't have to worry about series or parallel because you should only have 1 speaker connected per channel...

yeah, i just didn't get each channel acted as an individual amp before. I was thinking it was the total load of all the channels on the amp So obviously none of my math and connections i was thinking of worked out. I just recently decided to start doing self installs and learning so sorry if i ask some dumb questions.
