wiring new speakers

ok, 2 questions

my 1998 vw golf has tweeters on the dash and 1 or 2-way speakers on the front doors. I replaced the door speakers with 6 1/2 in 3-way sony speakers.

Will the new speakers play the full range, or do i need to change the wiring so the high's/treble plays on the new speakers instead of the tweeters. If so, can i wire it to play the highs on the new speakers and the tweeters

my HU is a pioneer deh-p5200 with 45watts peak (unknown rms)

the new speakers can handle 220watts peak (55rms)

should i get an external amp to power the new speakers.

oh, 1 more question, would a component system been a better choice

The new speakers will not play the full range signal because you have a crossover somewhere in your car that splits the signal to the tweet and to the midrange you replaced. You should get an external amp to power the speakers if you want the speakers to last and be louder, but it is unesescary if you like it the way it is.

Components provide you with better control on your imaging for the front speakers. And can handle more power overall while sounding better.

thanks, now i have to decide if i want to buy an amp or return the speakers for a component system. Im leaning towards a components system because id rather have a system thats sounds clear then overall loudness.

I'd never do what my cousin's friend did. he replaced his side speakers with high watt handling 2-way speakers but didnt get an amp for them. and then he added triple 15' subs, 1 is diff then the other 2 subs and powers them by an amp that draws so much power it dims his headlights. It pretty **** loud but it sounds like shit, plus he used the smallest wire possible to connect the subs.

Your gonna wanna get an amp if you get some comps. even a little one that only puts out like 40wrms would be ok, depending on what you get.
