Wiring Help ???

I have a JBL 600.1 amp, and I am considering getting either an Elemental Designs E12K or an Audiobahn AW1205Q. The audiobahn is a dual 2 ohm, could that handle 600 watts @ 1 ohm? If wired correctly? Or the Elematal I can get in a dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm at how many watts can that handle?

I used to have the JBL 600.1 with a 12" Hollywood Excursion( I want to say max power 1400) but I'm not sure. I just want to get another subwoofer that will sound similar. The Excursion broke b/c of the lead wire being vibrated against by teh sub going in and out. The wires were frayed. I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

based on how ya asked ya question you cannot increase a sub power range by lowering it's impedance on the amp. Cause the amp only sees a resistor, the sub can care less about 8 ohms, 4 ohms or 1 ohm. the amp cares though. Basically you just want the amp two push the resistant current through the sub at it most effiecient rms. so a dvc is a good idea or multiple subs in parrellel. 300W rms @ 4ohms is on average 600W rms @ 2 ohms. as long as you don't stress the sub for to long it doesn't matter what impedance is used.

im using a jbl 1200.1 wired 2 ohm to both of my 12" K's, has been working fine....

WTF???!!! ok, i know what i am talking about...and u even confused me! jac....don't listen to this kid. to your question....i believe you would be better off with th E12k...or if u want louder like u are talking about...go with the e15k!! But, yes...get the dual4ohm version and the you wire the voice coils in parallel to get a 2ohm load to the amp...and it can handle the 600 watts. Put a e15k in a 2.5-3 cube ported box w/600 watts and watch it pound...and u won't have to worry about the lead either...and they come with 3 year warranties!! nothing in their price range can come newhere near them. peace

I don't want to get a 15" sub b/c i already have a box for a 12". Won't the E12k blow b/c they're only 400 watts and I'd be powering it with 600 ???

well technically your actually pushing 700 cause the jbl's put out more than they say. if u go to the spec's on the ED k's it says anything up to like 900 rms. You shouldnt blow it, just watch your gains and dont play it for hours on end.

and why do they only listed at 400 rms?

ok, 400 watts rms is a VERY conservative rating. i've talked to loyd (ed K guru) and he has said b4 that they can handle more...but it all depends on application also. you just don't want to go outradeously high...i belive 900watts is WAY too much. 6-700 watts is the max they should get for daily driver! u'll be fine with th ~650watts that the jbl puts out at 2ohms! peace
