yes i know im a bit of an idiot when it comes to car audio.

how do you hook up an amp to a seperate battery then your main thats under the hood. im pretty sure if i hook my amp up directly to a battery it will just drain the battery pretty quick, so how would this work.

As far as draining batteries, it doesn't matter if it's directly to the battery, off a distro block or down a 10-foot wire as long as it's + to + and - to -.

Hook your amp as close to the 2nd battery as you can. The more connections and the longer the wire between your power source and the amp, the more power you lose.

so directly to the battery? ok.... it doesnt need some type of alternator thing to help keep the battery charged? wow....
Whether or not to use an isolator is a different topic, but that would be between your alternator(s) and your batteries and not really related to your question. You do have to hook your second battery to either the alternator or the first battery, though. That's what keeps it charged.

Read through this post for some starter information on Isolators. They have pluses and minuses and it's just up to you if you use one once you've researched them further.

... I think what you need to see is a wiring diagram. I'll look for one unless someone beats me too it.

hmmm.. can't find one right off. Probably best if you use a drawing program and post a pic of what you're planning on doing. If you don't know at all, I would recommend finding someone local to help you with installing it. Even with a wiring diagram, there's lots of details that you can mess up on and screwing up your battery and electrical install could really go badly.

thanks, i have nothing planned right now its just something im pretty sure im going to need to do when i upgrade my system and i wanted to learn about it a little bit before i even try and doing this. thanks though
