wiring 2 dvc 6 ohm subs to mono amp

So let me throw this out there. What if I wire 1 dvc sub in series to get 12 ohms and 1 dvc sub in parallel to get 3 ohms and then connect those in parallel to end up with a 2.X ohm load at the mono amp?

dvc sub 1 in series: 6+6=12 ohms

dvc sub 2 in parallel: 6*6/6+6=36/12=3 ohms

(2) dvc subs in series to amp: 12*3/12+3=36/15=2.4 ohm load at amp

u cant wire to a 2 ohm, u can wire to a 1.5 ohm which is wut i just got done wiring my friends alum12's to. U might want a little bigger wire though if ur amp is only 2 ohm stable cuz his gets hot after a bit. Wire all of your negatvies together and lead them to the negative on the amp, and all of ur postives together to the postivive amp channel.

If you look at the math it is possible I think. 1 sub would be wired to 12 ohms (in series). The second sub would be wired to 3 ohms (parallel). Then, both subs would be wired in parallel to the amp to develop a final load of 2.4 ohms.

I think it would physically work but I'm not sure what power each voice coil will actually receive. I'm thinking it will result in one sub being underpowered and one being nominally powered, but the ohm load would be within spec of the amp.

Test the actual resistance of the coils then determine what the best wiring option is. I gaurantee they dont test at 6 ohms exactly.

they may not read axactly six ohms but that is becuase you are testing DCR not the nominal impedance.....average impedance with all things considered should be very close if not 6 ohms

Actually MIN impedance would be right around 6 ohms but that could vary greatly with enclosure. You really should be ok with a decent amp running it at a nominal 1.5 ohms (everything parallel) because it will probably not ever see that actual load.

As far as wiring one in series and one in parallel, the one in parallel will get 4x as much power as the one in series.
