Ok, ive installed several subs and amps before, however i have never put a new subwoofer and amplifier into a OEM head unit with no 'pre amp' RCA jacks.
To begin, this vehicle is a stock 2002 Dodge Stratus without the infinity system. I was just installing two new 10 inch subs with a new amp. Simple job, right? Well, first i made the mistake of only splicing the right rear speaker wires. Turned the system on and i got the worst sound i have ever heard. Subs were not hitting at all, if they were, it was real high. Played with the gain to no avail, and also i was getting high toned static through the FRONT speaker components. Shit...
So i go back and splice into both the left and right rear wire pairs by taking the left and right + terminals and fusing them inline with sodder to the + amp wire, and same thing for the - wires. And shrink tubing all these connections.
Turn everything back on and the signal is much better, its just that i am still getting high static from the front satelites and it the subs arent really using any excursion. Shit...
Im not sure what to try now, i had little knowledge of the dodge wiring harness before this procedure, and had to call crutchfield //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif and ask which wires were to which speaker because my chart that i found online (wich was correct) had all different colors but in the right locations.
Should i try splicing into all four sets of speaker wire? My opinion is that i have a wrong wire, and that the polarity is off some where. or that i some how tapped into the front speakers wich could have gone through a high pass filter in the stock head unit (the rear speakers are big 6'' x 9'' while the fronts are 5 1/4 with component tweaters). Im doing all my splices behind the head unit in the dash if that helps. Any ideas?
(last time i do this time consuming splicing crap again, next friend who needs an install needs a decent head unit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif )
