Windows XP Install

Getting back into it!
Well, I've got two CDs I know should work.

I just built a new PC, with new parts. I've done this a million times but suddenly this comp. is giving me troubles. I'm booting off the XP CD and while it runs through the setup files (before installing XP), it claims it's missing a ton of files. It allows you to F3 (exit setup) or ESC (skip particular file). Even if I skip all the files its missing, it goes to the XP Install and says there is an Error (go figure). Missing the certain file, and must reboot.

I've tried three different XP install CDs, all have this problem or variation of same problem.

I've even reformatted, changed swapped ram, swapped optical cd drive, etc.

Any ideas?

wow.....

I have never heard of 3 different copies of XP doing the same thing. I've had the problem you are talking about (missing files) but it was from a bad copy of XP.

sorry can't help you on this one.....

You know what, Its funny you say that, I just had the same thing happen to me, except with 4 copies. What I did was, when it asked skip or retry, just keep switching disks til one works, It took a long time and was a pain in the ***, and you had to watch it the whole hour and half it takes. But it got done.

That sucks. Where are you guys getting your copies from?

I tried that then it went to the blue screen of death!!!

Id say your CD Rom drive or the ATA controller on the motherboard is broken/defective. try a new CD rom drive, hell it could even be the cable. Ive had the same problem before, the problem was the brand new CD drive.

Are these 3 different CDs but all identical burns (off the same source disk)? or 3 different XP versions, like home, professional, or an OEM-based one?

If the first is true, I'd say the source is corrupted.

Secondly, I'd think there'd be a problem with your CD drive connection. Is it an IDE connection? Tried using as primary and secondary? Slave / Master? BIOS config?
