The gain and LPF operate independantly from one another. The LPF should be set based on what the HPF of your comps (or midbass) is set at. Then adjust the gains to set output at a level that does not damage the speakers and blends the system together well.

Why would you recommend wiring them to 8 ohms, effectively cutting output by 75% (2ohm vs 8ohm), when the gain controls could be adjusted to create whatever power output is desired?
This isn't rocket science. If they bottom out or get stinky, turn the gains down till it stops.

You won't ruin them. That amp is almost certainly rated at 14.4 volts. The car probably sits at 13.8. That means it won't push 600 rms. It actually sounds like a good combo. If it turns out to be too much power, then wire it up to 8 ohms.

i have two mtx subs that are rated at 200wrms each, 4 ohm subs in a closed enclosure. then i have a pioneer mono amp rated at 600wrms and some kenwood deck. i know its not the best system in the world but im hooking them up in my girlfriends car and she just wants some bass. so anyways will that amp overpower the two mtx subs?

wow, so i just looked at the amp and its rated at 300wrms. so i will be alright then, right? also what amps going to be louder, the 185wrms one with 2 channels or the pioneer 300wrms one wich is a mono amp. thanks for stickin with my newb questions.

Assuming you are comparing RMS specs. the higher rated one would have slightly more potential. But there is no guarantees. as one may be underrated while the other is overrated. to name one example.

i have my subs going and when i reach volume 30 my amp shuts off and i have to turn my car off/on for it to restart again?? why?!!?!?
