Will my Lexus SC300 EVER get good bass

Hi Guys,

I am having a ***** of a time trying to find the "right" equipment to use for bass in my SC300. I have never owned a SC300 before and really had no idea that the 21 gallon gas tank is located in the trunk directly behind the rear seat!?! Furthermore, the trunk is completely sealed off from the rest of the car. Currently I have replaced the stock 10" with a JLw0 (which helps), but sounds like crap at higher levels.

I would like to utilize the whole trunk space (including tire well) and build a custom set up. My problem is I don’t want to spend unnecessary money and over-kill on subs and apps IF there isn't going to be a HUGE difference.

Can you guys recommend some subs or any unique way (box type, etc.) that will help me get some decent bass?!!?

This is stressing me out…//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Thanks!

Sounds like a dreadful arrangement for any kind of low frequency. I would suggest looking into a few Aura Bass Shaker transducers mounted to the seats. Keep the 10" and between that and the transducers you'll have that feel of good low frequency.... won't help on the meter, but it's a nice effect if you want to feel the lows.

Thanks! I have to look into this because I have never heard of them. Do you think removing the 10" and putting it in a box, locate that in the trunk (to get a better quality bass), and adding the Bass Shakers will be better? Or should I upgrade my sub to 2 12"s and use the bass shakers would be another option?

Get a good Image dynamics 10" to replace the jl. Then get a line out convertor and hook up a sub amp if you have the factory head unit. Id's are generally good in infinite baffle(if thats how the sc are set up). If you have the jl hooked up to where the factory sub was that's why it sounds bad, chances are it's getting very little power.

Without seeing anything I would say single 10 in a small sealed in the trunk + the bass shakers would likely perform best. I've seen couple cars done with these (convertible and something else that just had too much **** in between the trunk and cabin). Both small subs + 2 shakers mounted to each seat. IMO the effect was really nice particularly below 30hz where the transducers just move you so much more than even a rather big sub stage would..... your small sub moves enough air so that it still seems natural.

If the sub in the factory location sounds good at moderate volume you may just get away with that... if the sound is decent I'd keep that just for the sake of convenience, space, and stealth.

Bass shakers don't take a ton of power to get going and can be had for reasonable cost at partsexpress.

since your not using a very large sub you should come up with a low profile in-cabin location for it (rear deck, dash, center console, rear seat side panels, etc). trunk installs are just so uninspired //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boring.gif.42c69fa49b1e73e6332d62b462a2a4b3.gif

So between that wall of the trunk and the cabin there's a gas tank? Also is there a rear deck? Solid or some holes?

If the trunk is completely separated from the cabin by like a foot of gas tank you'll probably hear more trunk rattle than bass inside throwing a sub in there.
