We should raise taxes on gas to help pay for healthcare. People would drive less keeping the environment healthy while raising money to keep people healthy at the same time.

RIO DE JANEIRO — You've got mail — and possibly an STD. The Brazilian Health Ministry has created a Web site to let people inform partners they've got a sexually transmitted disease via an e-mailed virtual postcard.
The official in charge of the ministry's STD and AIDs programs notes that many people have a hard time telling partners they're infected.

Mariangela Simao said in a statement this week that the e-mails may help people "to tackle these diseases directly and with minimum exposure."

One of the cards shows a young man reclining in his underwear. It reads: "Hi! I don't know if this is the best way to tell you, but I've learned that I have an STD."

The card suggests the recipient see a doctor.

Nice. I hope Obama-care includes something like this; it'd make my life soooo much easier.

Actually he is right. Consumers will not react to high gas prices until they are extremly high. At that point we will demand that the gov't pushes forward with new energy sources.
The gas companies know this too. They actually study at what price we all start to really get mad. I mean, yes, it is bad right now, but how many people change driving habits based on the current prices?

The reason is because the gas companies know where the max they can go is and keep it around there. They make maximum profit and we still drive our normal amounts.
I recently experienced this. When gas went above 4, i really throttled down my habits. Now that they are back to the low to mid 2 dollar price, i've been keeping my same throttle down habits, and seeing a real (5-6mpg) difference. And not inaccurately measured, this is based off my average mpg, which is calculated and shown on my display.

no we should raise taxes on gasoline to pay to fight the gun lobby to raise taxes on guns/ammo that will pay for health care.

People will drive less, get shot less, and generally be more healthy.
