This statement doesn't seem a fair or correct statement.
If you want to protect the president don't put him on public property. Private property can prohibit the bearing of arms.

While the gun rights activists were clearly out of line and foolish, they were technically legally justified in their actions.

well the article you posted clearly stated that no one with weapons was allowed inside the convention. for obvious reasons.

the people carrying guns were in "designated public viewing" areas outside of the convention on private property.

and the people in this article who carry guns aren't a threat at all to the public or obama. they are law abiding citizens. their ability to purchase a firearm proves that.

i doubt most of the weapons were even loaded. it was purely a publicity stunt.

liberals tried just about everything they could think of and it seemed like nothing, not even kids opening fire in schools, could change gun policy.

Somehow i think perhaps conservatives showing up with loaded weapons at political events might be the easiest and fastest means to actually succeed in a tightening of gun laws.
