You can hang out with seaman all night long but your lifewill never be as cool as that year in Korea.

So young and already your best year is behind you, U sad?
i dont think the year in Korea was the best year of my life.. i've had better.. and will most likely have better yet to come.

Dont get me wrong, Korea was awesome and i might go back. But i've lived some really fun completely irresponsible years prior.

As far as branches of the military go, the navy would rate 2nd/3rd to me. Based on what I observe daily, as I work for a naval contract.

You have to consider the big life change any branch of the military will bring upon your life. Especially with the Navy. You have to consider the pay grade. Will you be getting more or less than you are at your current job. Is the signing bonus worth the pay differential if it is less. You get complete job security as long as you don't screw it up. You don't have to worry about company cutbacks and the state of the economy.

Are you willing to be deployed to any part of the world with no control over any of your destinations. Are you willing to sacrifice the personal life you have now for the life you will have in the military. Because it becomes your life. You will loose most contact with all your current friends and make new ones in the service.

Keep in mind if you are stationed on a ship. There are 6 month deployment cruises for all battle groups called westpact. So you will be away from your home port/family for 6 months.

Overall it's a decent career path due to the many bonuses that come with it. Like payed college and ease of advancement and the signing bonus.

Talk to a recruiter honestly. They can give you every bit of information you would ever want to know.

Oh and only Join the US NAVY. **** those Koreans and there wacky boats of war.

It's a pretty easy decision, you have to love the idea of being out at sea for months on end and visiting other countries. You also must be willing to take your gay jokes a little further than most people find comfortable.

I did four years active and it was great. Just like Flip said, play the game and you'll come out ahead. One thing I regret is not taking advantage of some huge benefits for going to school while your in active service. My plan was to go after I got out so I ignored those benefits.

I was active from '93 to '97 so I would imagine things are quite different now as far as politics and discipline are concerned.

Just take plenty of time to think it over, don't rush into it because you think it will be cool or fun.
