i actually got way better MPG than i thought i did.. i hadn't checked it since it really got broken in.
How the hell are you getting those numbers? Must be adding those up wrong or something.

I believe the 2.0 gets like 30-36 IIRC. You are getting 33-42? How are you getting way over the estimated MPG they state on the car? Usually you don't even get what they say, is always lower in most cases.

Remember I have a focus ST with the 2.3L and when I drove it like a granny, I didn't even hit the estimated MPG for it.

Yeah usually the rated mpg is the best possible circumstance, and the overall is more like if you drive 90% hwy/10% city.

I actually do not know, but that is the mileage i am getting.

Remeber there are NO hills here and no traffic.. its all cruise control... maybe that helps... I was amazed i got 47 on the highway..

PS: Not only did i check it several times.. someone with a masters in math checked my work.

i did have it reflashed at one point too:

i had it reflashed because of this:

Ford’s focus on fuel economy
Ford Motor Company’s razor-sharp focus on the consumer has prompted the company to make some dramatic improvements to the 2007 Ford Focus

22 Aug 2006 : Ford Motor Company’s razor-sharp focus on the consumer has prompted the company to make some dramatic improvements to the 2007 Ford Focus. Powertrain engineers concentrated on the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder, improving fuel mileage across the board.

“The Focus engine was originally calibrated for emissions,” says Nicholas Schubeck, supervisor, Powertrain Calibration for Ford Motor Company. “We noticed during testing that we could get a lot better fuel mileage by making some adjustments to the calibration while still meeting emissions.”

The team increased the engine’s spark and revised the exhaust-gas recirculation and intake manifold runner control (IMRC) schedules. The IMRC is a device on the intake manifold that increases the velocity of the air going into the cylinder at low speeds. Increasing air velocity helps in the proper air-fuel ratios.

“The issue is that the system also creates a lot of pumping losses, which reduce fuel mileage,” says Schubeck. “By opening up the IMRC a lot earlier to reduce pumping losses, fuel mileage was increased.”

This change, along with tire improvements, accounted for a 3-mile-per-gallon improvement on the EPA highway fuel economy label for five-speed manual models, which now see 27 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter automatic delivers 27 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway. For 2007, the base Focus models come equipped with 14-inch Hankook tires that offer better rolling resistance than the 2006 model.

Schubeck says customers will also notice an enhancement in performance. The extra engine spark improves acceleration, and the refinements to the engine have eliminated the hesitation that normally occurs when the air conditioning is is in operation.

More good news for Focus owners is that the changes were already made to many 2006 models, implemented late in the model year. Ford has released a service fix for all other 2006 Focus 2.0-liters that are not partial zero emissions vehicles (PZEV), and Schubeck says a similar service fix will soon be released for 2006 model year 2.0-liter PZEV models
It must have worked.

The MPG wasn't always figured for a full tank because i never wait till empty to fill up, but they were all at least a half tank.

I'm not sure if that matters, because i figured it based on miles driven and fuel consumed, but i thought i would throw that out there..

I paid no attention to the wind, so maybe i had a tail wind my whole trip but thats unlikely.

I did not run the AC at all, i have a 5 speed, and the car has about 53K on the odometer.

i never believe people when they say they get great MPG either, so its ok that you all think I'm lying or cant do simple math.

I honestly think its a combination of the reflash, ultra flat terrain, cruise control, and little or no wind (or tailwind).

Wasn't questioning you...I use the same methodology. Although some have said that isn't completely accurate due to fuel return or some nonsense. I figure it is close enough.

I get around 22-23, but my engine is twice yours and more suited for towing and hauling...
