i just heard that exon mobil had a record setting 40+ billion in profit, due to record prices...
why are the higher gas prices giving them more profits?

i dont know much about it.
There profits were more based on the price of a barrel of oil...and there is nothing any president/congress/policeman/etc can do about it....sorry to say it but hedge funds are more power (financially) than the government.

I wonder how come no one felt sorry for exxon 10 years ago when oil was roughly $20/barrel. The public is a bunch of hypocrites who want it there way all the time.

They want to limit the profits of pharmaceuticals...what they don't understand is that the investing public doesn't like the government limiting profits. For instance, Amazon doubled the profit and got killed the next day. Google grew by ONLY 17%...and losing buckets of money. The market is fierce...if they kill big pharma...no one will make medicine. Pfizer will just simply quit selling to America if they limit them to a bullshit profit.

i don't think they should limit profits, they should just increase efficiency. Seriously, they can come out with a more effiecient power source, or whatever they are selling, I have no problem paying money.

Sure they could, they just don't want to.

no, they really can't. Oil companies own the United States. If we try and shaft them, they aren't going to try as hard as they can to make sure we are happy.

It doesn't help when the president is a oil *****, but if we are going to do that, we need a good alternative energy backup so when they try and **** us, we **** them.

I don't disagree with your second point -- in fact, I feel very strongly that is almost criminal that we do not have the equivalent of the Manhatten Project to reduce our dependancy on fossil fuels.

However, I disagree with the notion that Congress is powerless to regulate the price of fuel. They lack the will, but not the power.
