yes, but how many of them actually grew them naturally?
id say a good 95% of white dudes, wont grow them naturally because they want them to look fashionable, neat and clean (this applies to lots of blacks too though). dreads that were hand formed, backcombed, seperated and filled with garbage *** hair products and shit are not real dreads. at least to me...

i was getting some fat ones a long time ago, before i got rid of them, and almost all the comments i got from people (especially from the girls) was "why dont you just like roll them between your hands and seperate them?". it got so annoying i was ready to drop kick people in the throat. the only people that ever gave me props for doing it the right way was the blacks.
Who cares. Dreads of any kind are stinky and lame.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sands

that album is pretty good

also really liked Maylene & The Sons of Disaster - II

Haste The Day - Pressure The Hinges

Foo Fighters - ESP&G

Evergreen Terrace - Wolfbiker

Anberlin - Cities

The Almost - Southern Weather

and The Shins new cd is pretty baller

dreads are a natural way for the hair to form when uncombed.
so, just IMO, the "right" way is the natural way. you dont mess with it. the dreads will form slowly over time.

i talked to this one guy, about a few years back when i was still doing my thing. he had some of the best looking dreads on a white guy ive ever seen, all natural too. big fat congos and everything. took him 10 years to get to that stage. black hair tends to form the "nicer" dreads if you will, but all hair will do it. the straighter hair just being a little bit more messy.
I never knew that. Muy interesante.

So if I just leave my hair alone dreads should just naturally form?

It's already decently long.

not to go too off topic, cause i notice i am doing it and this thread isnt about dreads lol.

but IMO, its best to start off with shorter hair to let everything work on its own from scratch. all you do is wash and dry the hair regularly. and thats it. the straighter your hair, the longer it will take. dont expect this to be a 6 month or even 1 year thing for natural dreads, especially if you've got straight hair. and dont expect it to look like black dreads, because we just dont have that natural coarseness and curl. its a long process that will naturally occur. took me months for the first one to form on the side of my head. then a bigger one in the back and so on. also, as your hair starts to dread, you will notice it start to shrink up and get shorter as the dreads slowly develope.

quick tip, if you work an office job or retail, i wouldnt even attempt this. the close minded wont accept what you're doing unless you're black. they will just call you dirty and say you dont wash your hair and your employer wont have it at his business. only way to go, is to make them all neat and clean (by this i mean separating them and rolling, not clean as in hygienically) , which i cant stand, which is why i ended up cutting my hair.

If I was to do it I'd wanna do it the right way.

Now I know.

Last off topic dreads question.
