i had suicidal tendencies in the past due to a traumatic experience... i'm sure nobody knew... when you're depressed... all people know is that you're acting differently... they don't know why or the extent, especially when you keep your emotions bottled up

However, as a parent, I am on the look-out for these differences.

This is nothing more then a case of a parent looking to put the blame on someone else for her daughter's *******, when she should be blaming herself. Depression is a mental illness that any parent should be fully educated on (self educated), so they can quickly detect such issues. I'm not saying that the 'neighbors' didn't do anything wrong, because what they did was entirely uncalled for..but the girls issues were much much deeper then a few myspace comments. Also, **** her for trying to get laws passed to regulate the internet...there should be laws passed against idiotic parents who can't raise their kids.

i feel you... as every parent should... the only ways is to have true communication... i don't think you necessarily have to patriot act your kids... but if you spend enough time talking building them up into stronger people to face the world, its hard to go wrong. then again, with the internet as a medium... i'd say you might have to patriot act your kids through 15... especially girls... society is harsh on them as *** objects.

A good parent has the ability to be both an authoritative figure, caretaker, and most importantly a friend to their kids. With all 3 done right, you usually won't have many problems. But without a well balance of those 3 things, it's very easy to lose control..specially if you slack off when they hit puberty.

I think the problem in todays society is too many parents only want to be their kids friend. I doubt that's the case in this situation though. I think I get what you're saying though... as a "friend"- building trust, communication and having good times... I think that is what a parent should be too. Some people think it means being able to party with your kids. I wonder how much the child of the other fam was involved in the myspace thing.

Yeah, as a 'friend' I mean exactly that..building the line of communication and trust, the kid should feel like they can talk to you about ANYTHING! But where most of them eff up is not keeping a healthy balance between Friend (encouragement, confidence, ect), Caregiver (food, nourishment, love, affection, etc), and Authoritation (teaching principals, manners, respect, honesty, etc).

1 Corinthians 13

1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
