Steve almost had me, but he waited too long. I decided this summer to buy a new laptop to bring to class, and eagerly waited for the release of leopard until i could stand it no longer. I saw a deal on a sweet 12" XPS and said fuk apple.

Steve will probably have another shot at my monies in a year or two.

Oh and i got office 07 ultimate for less than $60. Dont feel bad about paying 10% of MSRP for legit software.

I'm going to disagree here. I have a very new computer and vista ultimate. I do think that the new office is fantastic, but vista has so many horrible things associated with it. My video card is not supported (7900gt) and will show vertical lines unless I underclock, I can't use the newest driver.

After one of the performance patches I was no longer able to rename folders. My system runs about 15% slower using vista (even with Aero off). I'm actually about to switch back this weekend.

I do like some of the features though. The autoalignment of folders, the network connections, the Aero interface. All are major plus's. It just has some time before it is really "ready". Media pressured them into shipping early.

**** that. Steve can piss up a rope. I honestly hope Linux gets enough share to knock Mac on its ***. It's simply a PC in different cloak right now as it is. Why do I need to buy a PC with an ALT OS for more than windows? Just buy a PC and run ubuntu if what you want is a choice. **** Jobs, **** the iphone, **** all his abominations, EXCEPT THE IPOD!

There are many features in it I like. I just don't think they warrant enough pros to do hardware upgrades. It is a nice OS and when everyone is on the same page it will work. Right now everyone isn't playing ball though. It isn't entirely MS fault but they hold enough blame in this debacle.

I bought a laptop with vista premium and had no problem wiping it clean and starting fresh. I have had no problems with it and it is faster than my other laptop running XP, which is older but still a decent laptop.

Funny thing is that i decided to wipe the other laptop clean and reinstall xp on it the next day. I have installed XP countless times and on a ton of machines, including the one i'm refering to, and yesterday was the biggest pain of them all. For some reason the speedstep shit locked in at 800mhz and wouldn't change even on AC power. I never really figured that out and resorted to using a third party app to control it and regain the correct freq. Then the fukkin dvd drive wouldn't recognize disks it had burned or any other burned disk. Had to update the firmware even though it worked fine before the install.

The overall XP install experience was just shitty when compared to the vista install. It just felt threadbare and outdated as i ran through the routine motions of setting things up the way i liked them. The enormous amount of updates really drove home how old XP is and made me realize I've been using it for like 6 years. In comparison, the vista install was smooth and easy. XP was the shit in its day, but it was time for something new. I was looking toward Mac because i had heard so much shit about vista but took a chance and now

Vista isn't that bad. It takes a power user a little time to get used to. They made the OS more "intuitive", but geared towards no-tech folks. So, it seems to take more clicks to get places than it did in XP. But, I'm still new to Vista, so I'm sure that will change soon enough.

i hate vista for one reason.

Sometimes my firefox/IE will not work by going to any page, when i can still use MSN/aim/yahoo/etc. It's really stupid.

Next, when downloading a torrent/downloading for a longgggg time, I lose my internet connection. Thanks to the half-connection overload vista has. It's retarded

I do love Office 07 and Vista Ultimate though.. although the computer came with business. Free dell "upgrade" to ultimate FTW. Thank you demonoid. Hahaha.

Vista is buggy as hell and it's a resource hog. It also still has issues with driver integration, the TCP/IP stack, and bus handling, just to name a few. And don't even get me started on IE7...

My company passed on upgrading to Vista because it offers no needed "killler app" features over XP and it's less stable. Hell, even Microsoft knows Corporate IT departments aren't buying Vista. It has failed so miserably in sales and adoption that Microsoft was forced to extend the sales life of XP by another 6 months, well into 2008.

I'll stick with my copy of XP, and if I want something pretty, I'll use my boxes that have Ubuntu or the OSX Leopard beta on them.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Its not hard to understand why those in a business environment might stick with XP as long as possible, but I think for the average person buying a new computer vista is fine.

Although, I guess if you are buying a $300 emachine, with integrated graphics and 512m of ram; XP would still be a better choice.

heh, I never even noticed OneNote until I read this thread. So I opened it up and checked it out, and I must say, I am extremely impressed. That is a cool program!
And I like Vista a lot more than XP. Much simpler and more streamlined. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif
Indeed.

I showed some snooty macbook user how cool it was the other day.
