We have a 1998 2500 C/K Diesel at 130,000 the fuel pump went out of it, luckily it was on recall so it was free. Then our cab fan motor controlls quit working (1000 dollar fix) Then I accidently broke the door handle off, because GM doors are so messed up.

Dad's 97' Cavalier 5spd has 290,000 miles on it and runs like a top. The only repairs he's ever done was replace the alt, water pump, fuel filters, and plugs and wires.

Back in the day we had a whole fleet of those mid 80's Custom-Deluxe 4x4 Chevy trucks. I remember beating the shit out of those things. They were real work horses.

But they haven't built anything (to my knowledge) that will command $1-200k for a car the ran $2-3000 new.
Then you don't have much knowledge

http://www.sportscarmarket.com/profiles/2001/February/Etceterini/index.html

But most Japanese cars are still too new to have collector value.

Try finding these cars in 40 years and see how much you have to pay for them:

Acura NSX

Toyota MR2

Toyota Supra

Toyota Celica All Trac

Honda S2000

Any Z car, whether Datsun or Nissan

Skyline GTR

Mitsubishi 3000gt

Mistubishi Eclipse (not the newer gay ones)

Mitsubishi EVO

Mazda Miata

Mazda RX7

Subaru STi

And speaking of the Supra, how many 10 year old domestics are going for close to their sticker value today, like the mkIV is?

My s-10 has had its fair share of small issues (mostly fuel pump related), but nothing that was a real big deal.

Engine has 135k+, the original engine had 276k on it and still ran just fine. The only reason we replaced it was because we bought a wrecked blazer for $250 and pulled the parts off that we wanted.

The rest of the drivetrain (transmission, driveshaft, rearend, everything) has over 300,000 miles on it with no problems.

My family is all GM (6 cars in total). All of them have had their small issues here and there, but nothing to get in a fuss about.

Our cars include:

1990 s-10 (mine)

1993 silverado (my project with 210k on it and the engine ran fine until an electrical bug kicked in that I haven't found yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

1999 monte carlo

2003 monte carlo

2004 GMC sierra

1956 nomad......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Interesting read.

My first though after looking at the pic was that it seemed awfully close (to my untrained eye) to the E-Type Jag. Then after reading the story I noticed they made mention of its production being hamstrung by retail pricing which exceeded that of the E-Type as well as a Porsche 911 of those years.

Beautiful ride, though, without a doubt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

$151K for that one at auction, eh?

Someone with far deeper pockets than I'll likely ever have...

On topic, A lemon is a lemon. IF people **** at taking care of their cars, or overwork them, then yes, shit will die. We overloaded my mom's van on more than a few occasions, drove it hard, ****** died shortly after. Other than obvious neglect to body care, cleaning, and maintenance, I have yet to see any certain brand of vehicle being worse than another. The GM auto found on Grand Prixes and anything else that shares that frame is junk, will give it that.

WTF are you smoking? How many GM vehicles ever see 100K, I know mine didn't before I had to replace the engine. Camry's are excellent and reliable cars. They have a high re-sale value for a reason other than people are stupid.
My old 1990 K5 blazer had 225k mile son it when i purchased it; I never ran into a mechanical issue, and sold it at 275k for $500 less than I'd bought it.

I just bought I new 2006 z71 crew cab; Bought it with 13k miles. I'll sell it in ~10 years with at least 150k miles on it, and the engine won't have experienced a major issue.

There's a reason chevrolet's come with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty; if the power train failed very often under 100,000 miles, don't you think GM would change that to a 75,000 miles powertrain warranty?

are you an crack? you could maybe think about changing the oil ever so often. my company does snow plowing/maintenance and all we have is chevy, 32 of them. all of them have over 100,000 miles and half over 200,000. that's not just regular driving miles, that's snow plowing and hauling trailers loaded up almost daily. just so you know, i have yet to see a toyota plowing snow.

You're right.

There is a reason which can be summed up in two words ~

Kia & Hyundai.

When those two partnered companies started offering "The Best New Car Warranty In America" (I think is how they advertised it) they enjoyed significantly increased sales due to the available standard warranty coverage.

GM had to jump on the bandwagon and quick!

a couple years back, the best warranty around was the 125,000 mile warranty on the isuzu pickups, which is made by GM.

edit: i was wrong. it was a 12 year 120,000 mile warranty on all isuzu vehicles. i was looking at vehicles in 2002 after mine got totalled, so that was the warranty then. now i think it's 75,000 miles.

Ive owned honda, nissan, infiniti, saturn, ford, GM, VW,

All of the cars and trucks I've owned have been older with lots of miles. And all

of them have had some kind of problem.

Honda =powersteering

chevy =drivetrain/rearend

ford =timing chain

nissan =headgaskets

saturn =windowtracks

Infiniti =electrical/fuel milage

VW =overheating

Thats just one thing that I could think of that gave me problems with each different car I owned. Some have had more issues, some have had less.

My point is, no car is perfect. There is going to be some issue eventually

Keep in mind Prowler, both companies have limitations on their warranties.....one is not better than the other...
Nor does it state anywhere in my post that I think so.

I'm aware that both are limited by various aspects.

But I'll wager it is in direct response to Kia and Hyundai offering warranty coverage for that mileage duration which caused General Motors to follow suit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
