Since you are comparing your cable bill to that of 20 years ago...care to compare your energy costs too?

Lets see, $15 20 years ago verses $100 today for a lower value service

(Dont forget, that $15 included the top 3 movie channels.)

Gas may cost 3X what it did back then, but 3X $15 is nowhere close to $100.

Infrastructure costs would be astronomical, revenue would be down, and practicality is minimal.
I know it's really tough understanding that these are businesses. I wish they would forget that for a while and just give me everything I want for free.
you really do have a hard time with sarcasm don't you?

why can't they have cable where YOU get to choose what you want and not get these other bullshit channels, i hope this happens in the next few years cuz 3/4 of the shit on cable i don't even watch
This would make way too much sense and too many people would be happy... Not going to happen anytime soon, imo.

have those cost increased 93% since 1996? Are those companies claiming that the cost of their services has actually decreased?
Since 96' there has been a massive rush in technological advances. Technology has jumped in price as well. The average electronic consumer household salary has increased just as fast as the cost of electronics. See a trend here? Its called inflation.

Most companies feel as though their prices are competitive. Same with Comcast. Our only competition right now is Verizon and so far we are slaughtering them with our "Competitive Pricing".

Lower value service? Compare cable TV to what it was 20 years ago... Let's see, about 13 channels (36 if you had all of the premiums and a box) and a high noise floor causing grainy/snowy pictures by today's standards.

Cable TV today: Basic offers 100 channels. Enhanced digital with all of the premiums and you are looking at over 300 channels. The ability to receive HD as well as low noise floor by the use of fiber optics for clearer pictures, and higher bandwidths. Plus data services such as digital voice and high speed internet.

"Expanded basic prices rose more than 6% or twice the rate of inflation last year," survey continued.

I'm glad the cable companies have you to defend their valid claim that prices are indeed going down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

BUT AT WHAT PRICE?????

Think of the children!

Actually they have a marketing team. I'm just a tech.

And where are you getting your statistics from? Read my other post in which I said that the technology is also moving at an increased rate. How do you think you are supposed to pay for your convenience? Our American barter system generally uses money.

cars get alot better gas mileage these days as well, $20 in gas got you half as far 20 years ago

In 1984 my wife and I bought our first new car, a Civic DX, with an automatic ***** and a whopping 1.4L engine.

It would get a consistant 39 mpg on the highway and 33 mpg in the city.

Todays cars are gas guzzlers compared to the mid to late 80's imports.
