I would say billions a year for equipment, salaries, franchise fees. It even cost to rent space on a utility pole. Then everytime someone calls in saying their cable is out and we get there and its because they unplugged their TV...we take a hit in lost time, and equipment. It all adds up.

When I first got cable 20 years ago, the entire package (local, 80 basic, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax too) was less than $15 per month.

My last cable bill for just analog basic, including internet, but without any premium channels, was $100.62.

Tell me again how Im being served, 'cause it feels more like a screwing.

Its quite bullshit really, right now I pay 60 a month for cable + high speed internet from comcast.

I'm moving this friday, just CABLE alone for my new place (15 minutes away) is going to be 80 dollars. With internet the cost shoots over 115, theres no way I like watching TV THAT much.

same here in canada. works both ways. i had internet, and was getting free cable by splitting the line, and when i moved, i kept the modem for a while at my new address and hooked it up to the cable line(i had cable), and had free cable internet for a while.

Digital Cable W/ HD

2 HD DVR's

1 Basic Digital Receiver(No HD or DVR)

All HBO Channels including HBO In demand

All Show Channels W/ Show IN Demand

100 Music Channels, among everything else...

And if I choose to go with digital Phone,(which I wont simply because I dont use a land line) its only 19 bucks a month to add on because Im a current customer..
