OK i work nights at an assisted living on weekends, while going to school full time during the week. Tonight a residents family members came up to me and asked how school was going. I said fine, and they said that they have to donate so much money every year for educational purposes and would like to help pay for school. I was totally floored. She pulled out a checkbook and was ready to write me a check. They asked if that was OK and i told them that i wasn't sure i could accept it due to company policies regarding gifts from resident family members. I said i would certainly appreciate it but thought that we should get some sort of OK from the the boss first. The family is pretty well off but I have no idea how much they were talking about. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. I'm just pretty much stunned, as i really dont know these people very well at all. I mean im nice to their mother, and polite to them when i see them, but thats how i am with all residents. So what would you have done?
