I think the cops should shoot to kill when people flee the police. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
It's the same risk, the same decision of placing value on your own life.

Did you hear about the Polish man dieing from a tazer in Vancouver a couple of weeks back?

So why are you so hung up on the neighbor? lol
And I didn't say we should immediately initiate the risk in any situation, I'm saying the guy made his choice, he placed a certain value on his own life, and yet, the entire argument above for several pages was about value. lol
So then the flaw in my response is the first sentence? Just ignore that sentence as it was nowhere near the rest of the argument then.

No... but it happens relatively often, couple times a year, someone with a heart condition gets tazed and dies.

Sorry. Maybe you should do everything in your power not to get tazed, up to and including FOLLOWING AN OFFICER'S COMMANDS. lol

Pretty ineffective, since it was not even a logical deduction from the arguments raised.
I think you need more practice.
Your claim is that you can assess how a person values their life based on the risk they are willing to take.

Not every time, no. But when they choose to place their life in immediate danger in order to steal a relatively small amount of material possessions, it does tell you something. Wouldn't you say.

And your fallacy is hyperbole... you're overexaggerating everything to make it sound so far out... it's a simple smokescreen since you have no real counter to the argument.

Bottom line is, they made their choice.

In this instance, that is exactly what happened. The two men were threatened with death and one of them ended up lying in the shooter's front yard; the other ran. They obviously assessed things and to their logic, acted accordingly.

One of them lost...

I'm showing that the argument cannot be so simplistic as there are different complexities in every persons actions. Do I have lower self-worth because I would rather steal food than diamonds? I know some people do just have low self-esteem... my community suffers from it greatly.

There are unfortunate turnouts like this from time to time..

I think its easy to take things at face value and not know what is going on in a persons head when you make an argument about why they took a path less traveled. Doesn't mean the argument is always valid.

So are you suggesting they were stealing food and shouldn't be blamed?

They weighed the value of their lives versus an illegal act... they took their lives into their own hands the first time by entering the dwelling.

Then, when confronted with IMMEDIATE and CERTAIN retribution in the form of a gun-wielding man commanding them to halt, they did it again... and they lost.

So... like I said... I don't feel sorry for them at all. They took the risks, they knew the risks, they saw the immediate and certain life-threatening danger, and still chose to run.

Sorry. They lost.
