I absolutely agree with you in this regard. It's just something no one knows the answer to and we may never know.

Exactly. Many people use this “unknown” in forming a decision to walk away from God, while others use it to walk towards him. Being the latter, I must honestly say that I have very little faith in the ideals of modern organized religion. My relationship with God is a very personal "one-on-one" type of thing. It turns my stomach when imagining the atrocities committed by the Catholic Church during the middle ages, and leading into modern times in terms of heaviness and extravagance. Those late night broadcasts with big haired, makeup-caked women, rambling scripture from thrones adorned in gold leaf really get my goat.
