i dont sleep well. id love to see things different, but am i willing to devote my life to changing things, when im fairly certain i could achive nothing because the powers that be are huge and evil?
This is a quote from a man in the Reserve Police battalion 101 that served in Poland in 1942. The battalion was made up of mostly middle-aged family men of working and lower-middle-class backgrounds from the city of Hamburg. Considered too old to be of use to the German Army, they had been drafted instead into the Order Police. Most were raw recruits with no previous experiences in German occupied territory. They had arrived in Poland less than three weeks prior to participating in the mass round up and subsequent shootings of 38,000 Jews. Most were old enough to have remembered life before the Nazi party, and all men were given the option of choosing not to participate in the mass shootings. Few men opted out, but those who did suffered no consequence for doing so.
Standing around ignoring the problem is intrinsically different than holding the gun that keeps them imprisoned.
Then your beliefs obviously go against murdering(like most sane individuals). Their beliefs didn't instill this as "bad". Instead they found it empowering.
