It might offend their notion of fair play, but in reality it isn't a level playing field at all. Why do blacks make .64 cents on the dollar when compared to whites? Why is the rate of infant mortality higher? Why are their lifespans overall shorter? Why aren't they represented equally in higher education or the political system?
Its nice to think of yourself as unprejudiced and 'color blind', ignorantly believing everyone has equal opportunities in America. However when you look at the demographics its pretty easy to see that it isn't true. If it is true, then why do people of color seem to get the shaft? Are they biologically or culturally inferior? Why are there such discrepancies in the stats if America is just and everyone truly has the same opportunities?

I'm not defending affirmative action but to all the people who want it to end, what do you propose to close the gap? Ive never heard any better ideas (or any ideas at all) from the people who call for its end.

I don't know the exact answer to why there are gaps between the accomplishments of various races. I am sure that the truth is that there are a number of reasons. Obviously discrimination is one of those reasons. But let's not kid ourselves, there are certainly cultural reasons as well. Another question is whether those cultural differences are themselves the product of systemic racism. I would think so, in part. But I doubt that it is appropriate to lay all of the blame on whitey.

The extent to which a minority group's successes and failures can be attributed to cultural factors that are significant within that minority group is a question that people should be free to examine without automatically being labeled a racist. I think it is counterproductive that we can no longer call a spade a spade.

As for biological differences, that is an interesting question as well. I know, however, that we are well beyond the point where anyone can even discuss such possibilities without being lynched.

In my experiences, when I attended TSU on a full ride, some felt that whites were taking advantage of the system. Sure, they attending for free but many blacks felt the whites were slacking and it was unfair how that blacks had to work hard to attend TSU while whites could coast in, and remain on a free ride if they were barely passing.
There was an article in the college paper about it. I responded (and it was published) about how that is how many whites feel all the time. We have to work extra hard while others coasted, simple because of their race. Several people agreed with me, but I don't think it changed anything.

And another thing I hate how people keep talking about this, it just keeps reminding people of it ......the press is horrible about this did you hear all the hype about the superbowl? being that it was the first time there were 2 black coaches there at the same time.. I mean wtf who cares its like they are trying to start shit .. Have you ever been in the south I mean the real south there racisms there both ways.. I have been subjected to uppity-*** black girls for all of my life. Walking around with gaudy clothes, over-styled hair, shitty driving, shitty attitudes, and bad breath. I have a 4.0, scored high on my SAT, and haven't had to pay a dime to attend college because of scholarships. The whole racism thing isn't just whites discriminating against blacks and the whole AA thing. Lets go back to the whole BET thing. Lets say someone creates a White Entertainment television. I'm willing to bet that some, not all, but some black people would call that racist, even though there is a BET. And what about scholorships that are only for certain races? Not just blacks, but all other races too, except white. What if someone makes a scholorship for only whites? One of the qualifications would be that you could not be black to get it. Again, I'm willing to bet that some blacks will pull the race card on that too.
Whites aren't the only people adding to the problem of racism, blacks are doing it too.
