They still have a right to privacy. This kind of testing can bring up false positives in which parents/children will need to divulge treatment to the school that they otherwise didn't want to. For athletics and such drug testing is beneficial. this in no way is creating a benefit.
Then if you sniff a few lines in your home, your expecting privacy as well no? By taking a drug test whether for school, work or just suspension your privacy is being violated?

I can CHOOSE not to take test though and find employment elsewhere, did you miss that?
What options do these children and parents have?

Other laws were passed by majority before and taken to court and found to be infringing on rights as well, so that still dopesn't make it OK.

x2 for truth

LOL at everyone saying its a waste of our money....lots of our money has been going to places it shouldnt and not to places it should. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Glad I'm out of high school though. I'd probably just refuse the test and hope I got a vacation from school //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif.

As far as minors having the right to privacy....it really up to the parents, isnt it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Its a simpler way to help parents. QUOTE]Help parents? By taking away more of THEIR responsibility?
It is Bullshit pure and simple.

They may not discipline, but they also have no choice in the matter.
Giving them the alert of what their children are doing, IF theyre unaware. I dont think this idea is foolproof, nor am I 100% for it, but I do feel it could be helpful to some.

I didnt miss it, did you miss my question? I see you were able to avoid it. If consuming alchohol at 18 was legal, I would fully oppose this, especially as NJ state resident. But its not, therefore they are still breaking a law.

With this job that you have so many choices with...what happens when you get a surprise Mandatory screening after being there for 10yrs? Gonna quit?

As I said though, Rights ALWAYS come before Laws.

Trying to catch drunk drivers is completely different. The drunk driver is now breaking the law and violating other peoples right to life and safety.

And theres absolutely nothing wrong with checkpoints/random stops as long as the cop doesnt violate you, ie. illegal search.

i understand what you mean, i completly understand watching over your kids. But i do think this is pushing it a lil bit far. Randomly checking to see if teh kids have been drinkin, the article said that the test can be wrong if they used that day or somthing like that. So your kid used mouthwash and he gets tested, boom, now they call teh parents umm your child was drinking this weekend. Kid denys it, parents put the kid. Talk about an easy way to **** up family relations.

I dont mind the drug test at school since there were for kids participating in extracurricular activites, there takeing a risk there by smoking. But now there taken a risk at school and with family because they drank a little bit that weekend. Its not there responsibilty, its the parents. If the parents want the school to take control of the students lives then they dont deserve to be parents.

Sorry for the misspelling, grammer, and horrible punctution.

Jus hope i got my point across

So then it makes it right for a kid to attend school intoxicated, or even with a buz on? Theres no possible way that it could lead to any kind of trouble or harm...Kids nowadays dont bring weapons to school or anything like that either right?

I never said it was ok for kids to attend school intoxicated. But even if they do, they are now on the school grounds during school time. The kids that do this are fucking dumbasses anyways and need to be takin out by natural selection. But this alcohol testing is about kids drinking outside of school.

So instead of being involved in your child's life and knowing what your kids are doing, you are more than happy to hand this responsibilty over to the government?
