i never went to the dentist until i was 18 yrs old, they saw 16 cavities that they have to fill.

pretty crazy but its alright.

i still hate going to the dentist though.

So i went to the dentist today for the first time in probably 4-5 years. I know, thats a stupid long time but i dont have insurance and was scurred of what they would tell me.
Well anyways, i noticed a tooth seemed to have a hole in it last week and it freaked me out enough to get me into the dentist. I was thinking it was probably like a super cavity and i would need like a root canal because when i feel it with my tongue its like the thing is hollow.

So ya i go in and get all the x-rays and shit and find out that its not a super cavity, it was a filling that had fallen out. So the good news was that it doesn't need a root canal but the bad news is that i have 8 cavities that need to be filled, plus the redoing the filling that fell out.

I knew dental shit was spendy but Jesus Christ, for 9 fillings, cleaning, x-rays, and nitrous they want $1400! Thats WITH a 5% cash discount.

She actually reccommended I get a crown on the filling that came out, but that's another $1200. She said i could get by with another filling for a few more years and if money was an issue i should probably just get it refilled and take of the other cavities before they get worse.

Does that seem expensive?!

They ADA suggests accelerated fee schedules hippies.

But seriously you should get a real job....

Of course if it wasn't for wage controls back in the day insurance would never have been a part of your average american's compensation package and then you might have ended up with at least a choice in how to get covered...

Or spend less on X-tabs and buy dental insurance... it should be pretty cheap:

Doesn't seem at all expensive to me.

I don't know how Ex effects stuff, but I've only brushed my teeth once a day for the past 15 years (before that, I did what they told me to do) and I've never had a cavity. Had to have one filling though because of a wierd indent in one that was just some random defect.

Brush your friggin teeth.

I have teh gingivitis (genetically through my father's side //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif) and it won't go away and every time I hit up the dentist it's around $400 and that's with insurance. I have to go every 9-12 weeks.

Gingivitis medication is expensive.. :\

I also brush 5 times a day and rinse my mouth with hydrogen peroxide twice a day and this special prescription mouth wash at night. Tastes like *** and hydrogen peroxide tastes fine at first but then foams up and tastes terrible and makes me gag.

Dentists ****. Sorry to hear you gotta dish out $1400, GL with that man.

I've had fillings fall out 4 times on two teeth because of my old dumbass dentist. It wouldn't have been so bad if she didn't drill the ****er out every **** time, the first 3 times I don't remember but the third came out when i was munching on a frozen snickers while ice fishing.

IDK about expensive, all of those happened when i was younger so my mom took care of it.

but yet we buy 18" xxx subs without looking back.

When I bought my nine.1 I just bought it but the next week when I need new work boots im like man

i do brush my teeth.
I believe my problems stem from chewing up handfuls of ecstasy tabs and then not brushing as a teenager.

If your going to chew up tabs.. brush afterward.

It just seems expensive for some fillings for Christ sakes!

true. I have probably spent more than $1400 on sunglasses in the last few years but with them at least you get something new.

Going to the dentist doesn't bring any immediate tangible benefit, its all abstract and the payoff is realized in the future with no fanfare.
