lol, this is hilarious odd...I just stopped off at my sister's place for a second, and she bought like 4 containers of rainier cherries, they were like buy one get one...I was like **** man, why so many cherries? and she replies with "because they're so freaking good"...

I think a big part of it is the relative rarity of them due to only being in season for about 6 weeks a year.
