NEW ORLEANS -- Despite protests that at times erupted in violence, the City Council voted unanimously Thursday in favor of demolishing some 4,500 public housing units as the city rebuilds from Hurricane Katrina.

The vote to permit the federal government to tear down four public housing developments was a critical moment in a protracted fight between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and residents, activists and preservationists.

Other residents and their advocates said they fear the plan will result in loss of badly needing housing for the city's low-income black residents.

The vote crossed racial lines with the three black council members joining four whites.

So apparently New Orleans wants to get rid of their stupid, violent, and uppity blacks, and is going to demolish their government financed housing.

Personally i wish they would keep the projects. Not because I'm against the gentrification of New Orleans, but because i don't want these unruly losers moving anywhere near me!

I resent that. I'm not being racist at all.

A. They are poor (it's a project).

B. The police had to use tear gas against them when they were practically rioting today (violent!!)

C. They are fighting to keep a ghetto?! (stupid)

D. New Orleans is a predominately black city (probably safe to assume the majority in the projects are black)
