Why pay more for a JL audio amp?

The more heat the amp produces the better. Good amps convert distortion into heat so that the signal that reaches the speaker is "clean":fyi:
If it's a Class A amp, extra heat is a good thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sometimes efficiency isn't everything...

Same with S/N ratio...another overblown spec...

Being totally serious here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so wat specs should i look at when shopping for an amp?

LP's have S/N ratios that are horrendous by CD standards, but yet with proper system setup and maintenance...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now I'm really kicking myself for not bringing down an amp for the meet in January. But moving 80lbs of transformers...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Just look to see if it'll work with the rest of your system. Obviously, if it's in a car with a weak electrical system, you want to avoid current hogs. Get an idea of the internals, what's their quality like...is this going to last until I decide to get rid of it, or will it explode next week.

At least that's what I do.

hmm...so i guess power is not really that necessary then. But more pwarr equals better sound!!!!

Oh, and if anyone wants to hear what a "subpar" S/N ratio, horribly low DF, 3-5% THD, 80-year old technology-based outdated system sounds like, stop on by once I get the BIB's up there in January //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I'll provide the beer, you bring your favorite demo music...
