why are all car audio store installers stupid and cant build a box to specification

You're an idiot.I've seen just as many if not more good installs done by professionals than good installs done by the diy crowd. And what happens when the DIY'er ****s up? Someone who has actually has experience as a real installer ends up bailing them out.Free, or for a fee.
Honestly, I don't know why people think everyone is capable of doing an install. Some just don't have the time, desire, tools, or whatever else to do it.And most have the money to spend on it too. Most people just want an upgrade from factory, maybe some bump in the trunk, and nowdays someway they can hook up and control i-pod.

Yes there are some shitty installers out there, yes there are some shady shops. But these do not make up the majority of shops.
I dont know how this turned into a flame thread, but so be it. 1st off, no need to be a disrespectful little prick. If I said something, deal with it. Maybe, just maybe ive gone through a few places and there is a reason I said what I did.

All if which is MY opinion, from my experiences. I never entered this thread with the idea of venting about it. Nor did I claim DIY's are the best out there. Dont put words in my mouth.

Im sure there are quite a few moron customers out there that ask for stupid things to be installed it even stupider ways. All that aside, maybe MY expectations are too high? Yeah right.

If I get an install done, and 95% of it is dead on, but a week later im in the garage fixing mistakes that I would consider only an amateur to make.

Like a sealed box that leaks air, ohm load wired incorrectly when something else was asked for. A fiberglassed box that doesnt have edges sanded down in order not to damage the sub (inverted) sound deadener, that was installed without the surface area being cleaned so its falling off now? An amp rack thats poorly built, incases the amps in a way were no air gets to them?

I can go on, but you get the point.

Is that something you, or anyone would consider something from a so called "High end" shop?

Hell no. Until you know wtf is going on, dont you ever try to call me an idiot again. I never stated I was an install expert, far from it and ill admit that. However I shouldnt be in the trunk finding mistakes as easily as I have when Im the amateur when it comes to installs.

x2.
i hate cheap people who want things done half assed.
My last install didnt cost me a penny under $1400.00

I supplied the parts, thats labor. My car was in for 3 weeks, and I had to drive back there 7 times (40min each way) for them to fix band-aid fixes that were put in.

What part of what I had done was cheap? When I walked in I told them, do the install right. I gave them an overall idea of what I wanted and let them do the rest. Told them ill be flexible on the price, just take your time and do it right.

The guy that did my install had a so called 10+ yrs experience. Well, if I were in his shoes, I sure as hell wouldnt cut corners (as stated in my previous post) only to have me come back as many times as I did in order for them to take more time, and get aggravated in the process to fix them.

If he spent a bit more time and did it the way I knew it should have been done, id never would have needed to stop by there again. Do it right, do it right the 1st time IMO.

I have had 2 IASCA and USAC cars. Installers are not stupid, there are really great installers and some not so good. My buddy own's a shop where I helped to build my two cars. But I still payed him becuase its a business he has to eat and it would be shit to say yeah thanks for the help later. Do not lump all shops together. I have been around or involved in car stereo since 1990 this irritaites me as small shops that have guys that build world class cars go under due to cannot make ends meet.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

I used to hang out there alot and help some when I lived there. I have seen the stupid guy that wants the 6x9s in the front doors. Yeah I got this 2000w amp at the pawn shop for 50 bucks I want to run these 18's in my car, can you install it for me I got 100 bucks. Please 100.00 bucks shit that doesn't even cover the MDF for an 18 box, not to mention covering it, glue, screws, wire, fuses ect.

If you tell a shop you have 100 bucks you are going to get 100 dollar worth of work even you specify what you want. So to build a box to specific dimensions and cover it so it looks nice and the time 300+min sounds about right to me. In a shop you can install what mabey 8 HU in the time it takes to build a nice box. Do the Math--------8 HU in 4 hrs X $25 labor per install=$200.00 and no mess to clean up, plus if you sell them a wire harness and kit, so add that in.

DIYers are good they are trying, I am about a 1/2 a** DIYer. But I still rely on my buddy to build the really good stuff that helps me get to the top. 7 cars to the world finals IASCA and USAC scince he opened in 1999 ain't bad at all. Do not knock all installers, same as the DIY crowd.

ok when i started this thread it was b/c i was angry which i still am cause now this is my 3rd box i am getting done by a shop b/c every shop in my town doesnt know how to build boxes to specs on the spec sheet. Well anyways i told the guy when he built my box for my car i am doing all sq so if you have any problems with they way i am wanting my box then le tme know and lets not forget this is just a plain jane rectangle box if need be i will take pix of it so here is the box that they made for me and take note this box was made for a treo ssx12.22 and i even printed out the spec sheet for them to give them the specs on the sub!

Exterior: 33x18x10.5

Sub Enclosure: 21x16.5x8.5

Port: 1x16.5x30

1.5 ft^3

now when i saw this box i was like is this box done right and i aske dhim and he said yes now take note this is the most expensive place to go to in town and i have heard good reviews from ppl that got installs done there.

I bet those ppl who got there installs done didnt even go check to see if there work got done right u know.

now yall have the box they made me use your formulas to get a answer and tell me if this box is good for the sub or not. Also the reason i say this is not a good box is cause i called treo tech support and gave them the specs for the sub and he said himself it was wrong so i will trust the treo tech guy over the box installer?

http://www.treoonline.com/ssx.html

now go look and someone tell me if this box is really right for this sub or not.

money was not a issue with me i told asked him how it cost he said 173 so i said ok. So why did i get a shitty box when i told him i am using high amps brand names to go for sq and he still ****ed me over.

i aint askin for a story,
iv worked long enough to see how cheep people can be.
That fine, im not to be placed among that cheap category though. Im sure you've seen your fair share of cheap shit ppl. Ive seen my fair share of that as well.

You stated you knew of a few good places around here, well lets hear it. Id love to have my sh!t redone by someone that knows what they're doing.

Signature Audio in Scottsdale
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Ive been there before, never had them do an install though. Last I stopped by Rachel was still working at the front counter. I'll leave my car with them next time I stop by.

Thanks.

Trunks9 us Did you go back and try to talk to the installer after the mistake. Explain that you felt you did not get what you payed for or agreed on. I would at least give that a shot to try and give them a chance to redeem themselves. Even mabey draw out or have the installer draw it out on paper to make sure they understand what you want(both on the same sheet of paper). Even my bud and me have thought we where talking about the same thing to only find out after he drew his impression and me mine it was nothing alike. I would research a few installers ask for pics find some other people the have donw work for. I have had some bad experiences along the way. Only once was I not able to work it out. I made sure that everyone I new also new never to go to that shop.

I know you are pissed and you have a right to as you spent your hard earned dollar. Just try a different approach it may work out better. If you have already tried this then vent and then see how you wood working skills are. For the price you could mess up a couple times before you get it right and be at the same dollar amount spent.

There is a shop called TNT Audio here in hammond, and a me and a friend of mine went in there just to see how much they would charge for a fiberglass box, and the guy told me he would have to first build a box out of mdf and the put fiberglass over the box, b/c and you can't use just fiberglass for the box b/c its weak. So I just kinda walked out of the shop and left. SOrry kinda random, but just posting a similar experience from a shop that doesnt know crap
