why are all car audio store installers stupid and cant build a box to specification

chris norris lives around here, his boxes are better than specification and also $250+. lol d&b tho, everything is sealed, or ported @ 40 hz with 12-15in^2 of port lol.

i'd love to get a job at an install shop where i live, most of the installers are nerds that passed the MECP test. none really care about how it sounds

Do u have access to a table saw? If so do u know how to use it? If so I can walk u through the entire process. I helped another member on here a few weks ago build his. He was looking to buy a box untill I convinced him he could do it himself. Well it took him a few days but his was ported & tuned for a 10W7 & his looked perfect when he got done. It's not as hard as u think BUT you would need to know how to use a saw, preferably a table saw,. If you're not use to a saw maybe call your local cabinet shop or mill shop to see what they would chrage to make the cuts for u, then all u have to do is put it together. Anyway let me know if u need help. Good Luck!!

As a former installer I would ask " Why are car audio customers so cheap and stupid?"

I'll admit there are some bad shops but 90% of the janky work you see is "exactly what the customer wanted." And who am I not to take there money and do exactly as they request?

Customer: I want four, 6x9's in my dashboard.

Installer: Are you sure about that?

Customer: Yah, dat be ballin.

Installer: Umm, ok. But we'll need to do some fiberglassing and then wrap it vinyl so it looks right. (even though it will never "look right" or sound right) If you drop that off today I can have it done before we close tomorrow.

Customer: Tomorrow? I can't be waiting that long. I can drop it off on my lunch break and you can just cut some holes with that saw thing you got. Shouldn't take more than an hour, man. Dats how my boy did it in his ride.

Now, I can refuse this job and wonder how I'm going to pay the rent. Or can take the job, pay the rent, and pray to god another customer comes in with some common sense and some money so I can flex my skills and hopefully redeem myself. This is a business, not a charitable organization. Bills have to be paid, I have to eat, my family has to eat.

Being an installer is far, far, far away from being a glamorous job. If you think you'll only be working on show cars you're sadly mistaken. Just look on this board as an example. How many times have you seen someone post up pics of their home brew install and there is a 3 day old cheeseburger still on the floor board? And that's coming from someone who supposedly "cares" about his ride and is showing it off to the whole world on the web. You can only imagine what you'd see other cars.

You're right, not ALL of them.
However, I'll go out on a limb and say 1/100 actually do good installs. I have yet to find 1 anywere near pheonix.

You're an idiot.I've seen just as many if not more good installs done by professionals than good installs done by the diy crowd. And what happens when the DIY'er ****s up? Someone who has actually has experience as a real installer ends up bailing them out.Free, or for a fee.

Honestly, I don't know why people think everyone is capable of doing an install. Some just don't have the time, desire, tools, or whatever else to do it.And most have the money to spend on it too. Most people just want an upgrade from factory, maybe some bump in the trunk, and nowdays someway they can hook up and control i-pod.

Yes there are some shitty installers out there, yes there are some shady shops. But these do not make up the majority of shops.

alot of places i find around here dont like doing customs boxes and/or any math pertaining to the tuning. and the ones that will do it want like 500-700 just for the box

id rather spend 80 bucks on materials and do it myself....

I agree with Pyro about only a few installers being bad, hey that's the way it is in just about any business in the world, there r always going to be folks that just want to get paid & don't care about thier reputation, work quality or if the customer is happy or not. Some businesses r worse than others these days but I don't think car audio is one of them cause I've been in car audio for many years & I've got to know a-lot of the other guys working around the areas I worked in and most of them were great guys & really cared about thier reputations!
