Mixing battery technologies is never recommended.  The primary reason being that each battery topology floats, charges, and discharges differently.  These differences mean that when in parallel you get the worst attributes of each because the best attributes cannot prevail.

Ultracaps can easily mimic the battery system (and charging system) so they aren't a hindrance.  I've had good luck with Maxwells for over 5 years.
