yes but with cheaper alts chances are you are no better off than with your stock and when they fail sometimes you get the run around and spend weeks trying to get it fixed..

should i hook up my batt and big 3 to my car now? and then just install a new alt(if i find one) later?

Ahh you can go ahead now but must be easy on the gains and stuff to be safe..

i would just stay at 1/4 tops and besides gain depends on input voltage fom the power source as well as rca's to what it is actually putting out...just cause gain is half way up doesnt mean it is doing 900rms..it could be more or less..

1/4-1/3 just make sure all is set right and the front is not getting distorted or really over powered..

it does somewhat..as the gain is dictating how much the rca input is being amped thus effecting the output f the amp now the input voltage and current do effect this a little more than the gain but it all plays a role in the amps out put..
