Which JL setup would be better?

I have a 07 GMC Sierra 2500 HD crew cab, new body style. I just recently added the JL audio stealthbox which contains 2 10"W3V3's and a JL HD750/1 amp runinng on the 4 gauge JL amp kit. I am keeping the factory head unit so I also added the JL 2 channel remote cntrol level to give the amp a 7.5 volt. I left everything else the same since I have the Bose factory system. Don't get me wrong it sounds great but for around $2k, I think it should sound way better. I was thinking about getting a 8W7 in a custom box to go under the rear seat off the same amp. Anyone with any input?

i can say one thing tho.. if u decide to go with the w7.. yer probably gonna be disapointed again.. it probably wont get very loud, but it will sound fairly good.. but dont expect to much of a difference, saying yer going with the same amp

if it were me, i would get rid of the w3's and replace them with something else

i think, unless u can get a really good deal on jl, u could do much better

there is a lot of buzz around the new IA products.. give them a look

or.. got o ebay and check out RE-Audio subs... they have a mutlitude of line ups

keep in mind.. that if u want more bump, yer gonna need more power, or build yer own enclosures

i said yer probably gonna be disappointed again.. it might sound better, but running off of the same power, yer probably not going to notice much of a difference anyways

if u do want a single sub setup.. check out what i suggested.. yer gonna spend less $$ and possibly be a happier person

how much room do you have? the 8w7 is a really nice sub, but it isn't going to get louder than the 2 10's you have.

i have a friend that has those same subs in ported box & it really hit hard & sounds good doing it, it suprised the shit out of me.

you have a really good amp, i bet if you learn how to use that slash eq on it you will be very happy in the long run.

the 8w7 is a really nice beat as well, but you can look else where for subs.

prefab boxes are ok, but have someone this forum make one for you or try to learn how to make one for yourself.

I dont really have much room to play with because it will be going under the rear seat. I don't really have a lot of money either but I want more than what the JL W3's are giving me. Maybe I have unreal expectations, but I have heard so much good stuff about JL, that's why I chose them and the guy helping me is really big on JL, in fact he held the world record for 3 subs without a wall in a yukon he built, granted it had 3 13W7's and 3 JL 1000/1 amps and focal mids and highs etc., but back to my situation, how much can I cram under the rear seat? Should I look at some of the shallow mount subs, or what kind of box could be built? I have no box building talents!

yes you can look into shallow mount subs like RE Audio,jl,etc.....

what ever you do keep your amp,

jl isnt for every one.

i like the slash amps, & w6v2 line as well w7's

when it comes mostly down to speakers & subs it all about box,placement,aimoing, porting, sealed, yes it can get complicated at times, you need to learn how to use gear your before buying more.

on your amp what are your settings?

filter mode?-------------------------------try it off or low

filter slope? 12 or 24db-----------------i like 24, but you can play with 12 or 24

filter ferquency/xover?------------------ look around 65/80

input sens?--------------------------------go about 1/2 way, then you can adjust it less or more to you liking

output polarity? 0-180 phase----------play with phase,yes it can make difference

infrasonic filter?---------------------------when you have a ported box you sometimes get port noise, the filter help stop that noise.but it can take hurt more then help @ times,

what is your setting on your deck???

do you have a xover on the deck,eq,bass filters??

play with it first to see if you can make it sound good.

you can learn how to built a box,

if you go to homedepot in the back where they cut the wood for you they have scraps of wood that they sell for like $0.57 to $1.20 a piece,

I'm still learning how to make the best box for my car,

i've made anbout 10 different boxes for my hatch which i haven't been pleased with yet, i'm working on a new now,

car audio is like a drug an expensive drug that you can learn from & have so much fun playing with.

If you don't have a lot of money to play around with, definitely stay away from JL, they do make good products, but there is a lot better for 1/4 the price of anything that JL has retail. Look into the RE SE's, I have a pair of 12's, they get very loud, and they are as clear as the w7. And I got the pair for over half of what you can buy a used W7 for.

^^^yes the RE SE do sound really nice for the price, they are more on hands with w6v2.^^^

the RE XXX is more on par with the w7.

but since he already has the jl's he should try to work it out before spending more money.

the box does make the difference as well.

Just to let you guys know, thanks for the advice. I checked the amp settings an they were set up like you suggested. This system was put in professionally so I'm sure they knew how to set it up. I will be getting rid of the stealthbox and the HD amp and replacing them with a JL Slash 1000/1V2 and a 13W7 in a custom built and tuned box to go where the 40 part of the rear seat folds up. The guy I'm dealing with said he would cover the box to match the seats so hopefully it will turn out nice. I believe the 13W7 will give me what im looking for.
