Which amp would have better sq?

If you have to ask this question, you're not going to be able to hear a sound quality difference in amplifiers.

JL I'm sure will have a lower distortion level though.

I assume you can wire at 4 or 1 ohm. I think I'd rather run

the hifonics 1008 because you could use it as a 2 channel

later if you wanted for some other application. Plus it's cheaper.

JL's going to be more efficient but it doesn't look like that's your concern since you didn't ask. I'd go with the TMA. The more comparable amp would be Brutus 1208d, and in that case, I'd prolly go with the Brutus.

I didn't realize being unfamiliar with specific brands had a direct correlation to what your ears are able to hear.

and how do you figure that? class ab amps do sound better then class d amps
if you compare 2 quality amps. 1 D class, and 1 AB class, that put out similar power, at similar voltage, you won't audibly hear the difference between the 2. there are possible filters and options on 1 amp that is better than another, which could make a difference.

both amps xovers were bypassed and i used my heads xover for filtering. i went from 2 EClipse XA1000 with class d amps one per sub at 480 watts each to an ID Q700.2 bridged to 4 ohms at 650 watts between the two and the ab amp sounded way better. now there has always been a big debate if there is any diffrence between the sound of class amps and there probably always will be. at the same time one could say the same about 2 quality "class d" amps and say that a person can't hear a difference. but we each perceive things differently and it will always be the way things are.

that 170 watts extra might make a difference all by itself.

what 170 watt differnce you divide the power of the one amp between two subs compared to each sub getting 480 watts?
i missed that you split the other amp. i have a class AB now. ppi pc2350. i love it. it doesn't sound any better than the class D amps, on the same subs though. i can't hear a difference between the 2.

When classing amps, they do it by effeciency. An AB amp is much less efficient than a Class D, but IIRC, it's a lot less distorted... in most cases you can hear a difference between Class D and Class AB amps.

However, there are cases in which you can't.
