Where should my gains be set?

I am going to tie them @1ohm. Where should the gains be? Halfway? 3/4's?

My brother still thinks that if his gain is set low and the amp is loud, that he has a strong amp with lot's of power left... lol. It does no good to explain it to him.

there is no magic setting. you need to set the gains according to what you have. unplug the rca's to the amp. turn up the head unit about 2/3 to 3/4. make sure the gain is all the way down. plug back in the rca's and slowly turn the gain up until you hear distortion or bottoming out. turn down just a little. that is the ghetto way. it works though.

set it all the way if it wasnt supposed to be set all the way it wouldnt give u that much power

the amp does its power with gain and boost up all the way so just put both up at least 3/4 and u will be happy

this is an example of the wrong way to set gains.

I have not got he subs yet. I was just wondering if any one had a similiar setup and how high did they set it? I want it to be as loud and hit as hard as possible, without distortion. The amp says 1600 and the subs are 1000, i was asking if it is possible to have the gain all the way up @1ohm(for maximum power) and still sound clean. Should i get a less powerful amp?

doesn't matter if someone had the same setup. your gains will be set differently.

Some people here can give a Type R more than 1000 watts. You'll be fine with that amp.

YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG

Sorry, kcdc, I had to. This is just asking for trouble, especially if you have a Pioneer HU.

Just turn your car off, set the gains to the lowest possible, and turn the HU up to about 3/4, and if you don't have a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) the best you can do is just listen to it, and wait 'till it sounds like your woofer's dying. Then turn it down a bit.

And turn off any bass boost.

EDIT:: And Type ARRGHHHS can take a lot, but it all depends on what box they're in.
