make a "pop" sound?? noob question but ive never blown a speaker or heard one go.... well actually the factory door speakers in my NB (4 inch "bass" speakers) started ratteling really bad so i figured they were toast.

story: changing my brake pads today and i had the radio on. not loud or anything, maby 7-8 on a 35 headunit as a comparison. well i finished the job and went to bed the brakes in. got in the car, started it, and went to leave. turned up the radio a bit, maby to 15, and i heard a "pop" and the sub stopped working. i dont have the stomach to take it out and look at the coil as the sub is only like 6 months old and 4 of those months were spent not being used due to a lack of an amp.

any help?? if you need pics to tell ill get some. im thinking it was the amp, it seemed on its last leg anyways.

Lemme guess, bass boost and full gain.
Should have gotten funky pups if you're worried whether or not they blew. IF they blow, they make wormholes.
actually no, gain at about half and boost at 4DB out of 12DB. had the audio shop set it up because the amp is rated at 1100W bridged 550W one chanel at 4 ohm and the sub is only rated at 300W, its a JL 10W0. ive had the sub play WAY louder than that before and it sounded nice and clean. but it blows at less than half of what it has been at?? i dont get it....

Just because the gain is half way does not mean that the amp is putting out half power.

It's probably gone now, but for future reference follow this chart when setting your gains:

sub doesnt even move. i heard the noise, turned the radio off and looked at the sub. looked ok so i turned the radio on low volume and put my ear to the grille, nothing. ill check the fuses when i get off work. now that you mention it, it did sound like my 20 amp headlight fuse blowing when i was trying to wire extra lights.... hopefully thats the problem.

ill get pics of the woofer when i get off work as well. any specific areas to get a pic of?? i figure the VC, spider, and cone.

Matt

oh and nifty chart, thats what the guy did, i had no clue what he was doing. i kno the sub was safe, thats why i dont get why it happened. if i ****ed up and blew it id just go buy another sub and b done with it. i just want to make sure its not something else before i buy a sub, that way i dont blow another sub.

Matt

When a sub blows it sounds EXACTLY like a kernel of popcorn.
seriously?? thats what id compare it too, that and a 20 amp fuse.... **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
