Whats wrong with edead?

The first iteration of Edead was an Asphalt product as mentiioned already. This stuff had TONS of known issues falling off.

If you have a product with a 2 denotation (like squared), which is the new stuff, it is a butyl product and works fine. I have applied 30 ft^2 to a friends car and about 10 ft^2 to my car so far without issue. I am using the newest Edead V1Se2 stuff for refernece. Only possible issue is that the backing aluminum is VERY thin. This makes it easy to rip in corners and whatnot, but does help a bit in ease of application.

I have also ordered some Second Skin Damplifier to compare to. I expect the Damplifier to be sturdier and overall better, if not only for the fact that it is more expensive and a comparable direct product. I have a running post on the SS forum where I will post my comparison thoughts when my Damplifier gets here and I have some time to work with it. I hear lots of good things and I think that Ant, the owner, seems like a stand-up guy based on his postings.

I have also used a little of the new ED v.4 Teklite and find it to be a good material so far, time will tell on the adhesive qualities though. For that matter I decided to try some of their v.3 liquid deadener as well... haven't gotten it yet but it's on the way. My goal is to purchase the equivalent SS products as well so I can have first hand experience to compare the two companies offerings.

Prior to the Edead I had always used Peel & Seal with no issues due to my application method; I use small pieces of 6" or less, and tape every seam and edge of each layer with aluminum tape (ask Nick at SI, I do mean EVERY edge), and I also used a LITTLE bit of heat for application (but not too much). The small pieces keep weight from pulling it off, and the tape solves ANY possible way for the mat to pull off and also solved smell issues in my experience -- I have even used P&S upside down with this method. 5 years worth of hot summers haven't made the P&S fall off my old car.

Not to say that P&S is an ideal material, it's not and it's a hassle, but that method works if you have no options but P&S, the old E-Dead, or other Asphalt mats. The thing that worries me about these products is the toxic fumes, that is what swayed me to go ahead and purchase butyl products to finish my new vehicle installation after starting the trunk and one door with P&S.

I am certainly not an ED fanboy, but I am pleased with their new Edead V1Se2 mat. I will also be evaluating their other deadeners, so far so good with the v.4 Teklite.

Wow... that was long. Hope it was helpful.

Heres a nearly finished photo of my deadening install.. The edead V3 only has about 1 layer down in this picture, but I put down 2-3 layers overall. The blue=edead and the black=sludge. the mat deadener on the back is the edead v1

Its just drying up now. Picked up some Hooker Audio rcas earlier and going to run all the wiring tonight after im ready to put the carpet back in.. but yea, its all holding on good.

well an update on my edead V3 install.. it hardened up really nicely(enough to stand on and sit on while wiring up stuff) about 7-8pm.. only 3-4 hours after final coat. Not bad. The sludge took all night and part of the morning t get to that point. Though I will admit, I laid the sludge on thick, expecting a long dry time. Its definantly the superior product in the end, im sure. It seems a lot of people still dislike edead and other are happy with it. Im sure most of the judgements are based on their previous line of mat deadening, not the new one with butyl based materials. I might try their new edead v1SE2 as a final layer on my doors this fall, or I ight opt for the second skin, as I really enjoyed their sludge!

Thanks again for all the opinions, it seems that even if it is just peel and seal relabled, a bit of heat and pressure will help its install a lot. always 95% install, 5% materials as usual.

Thanks!

PS: I will post on here once I get all the amps installed again and see how it sounds! Next up will be the roof! Im going to likely just use mat deadener there.

Lurius,

As I stated above I like the Edead V1SE2 quite a bit. The only weakness is the thin backing, which actually helps in some ways with ease of installation. If you want a sturdier backing you would want to go with something like Damplifier, which I will be trying out for myself very soon -- as it's backing is something like 3x thicker.

Best of luck with the deadening project! I've just begun to deaden my car and it seems like it's already taken forever!

Thanks! Mines taken quite some time as well since ive spaced it out so much. The doors were the worst, but the floor was pretty quick and easy, mostly flat, and if it peels no biggie, so its a quick and simple job.

It looks great so far!

I dread taking out my interior to do the floors, so I'll put it off as long as possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It's a BMW so everything is complicated to take apart *laughs* Fortunatly it's also pretty dead from the factory so I can take my time if need be, which I have been doing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I had to help someone take down a mercedes lol. I hated it, but was impressed with the amount of padding that was under the front, I thought it was overkill at the time, but now I know otherwise! This was a couple years back so I dont remember what model it was, but it was an 80s something model.

i HATE how edeadv1 smells, and after awhile it'll kinda melt and drip brown & black stuff all over your trunk... it ruined my otherwise perfect amps. goodbye re-sale value //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
