I've heard anywhere from 50-250ft from various people so I really don't know what it is out here. I didn't get a Disturbing the Peace for speakers but almost got one for my Exhaust system or lack thereof. 
Officer: You can't run your car without a muffler.
Me: There's a brand new muffler under there, it's just not connected to anything...
Luckily I only got a warning and told her I was on the way home to fix it with Exhaust tape and made this big story about how I'd been waiting for my dad to get home from work so we could work on it together and be all father son like, and she let me off. That was 6 months ago and I'm still the loudest lawn mower rolling. 300$ car over 3 years ago = Not fixing Exhaust system for any cost ... :/
