What's louder 1 sub on max power or 2 subs on half power

Ok well I just installed my JBL GT5-15 15" sub in my car and it is seeing it's max power 300rms. Now I want something louder.

I'm looking at the Soundqubed hds 12. They take 1200rms. I want to run 2 eventually but I don't want to upgrade my electrical just yet so I'm wondering; what would be louder? One on 1200rms or 2 on 600rms each?

Um, you might want to do that FIRST before your electrical chokes. See, your doing it backwords. Bi3 1st then add amps.

And sub cone area is king. 2 subs running about 1/2 power will out hit 1 sub on full power.

Id rather have 1 12" full power then Two 12s half power.... idk why other people saying cone area will be louder when r talking about 1-2 woofers....maybe if u were doing 4 12 full power vs 12 12s half power then cone area would take the cake.

Theoretically they will be almost identical output

You are pushing one sub to xmax or 2 subs to 1/2 xmax your total volume displaced (spl) is the same

With 2 subs you have double the motor but double the mms

With 2 you have the option to up power later then that is where you will start to increase spl past the limits of one driver

You need double the power to increase 3db

At a certain point the woofer won't handle more power and you need more or bigger woofers

This theory does change with enclosures. You can build an enclosure to optimize output at lower input power or a specific frequency

Then it's difficult to just say double power is 3db or 1/2 power is -3db

Imo go with 2 more heat dissipation with 2 coils and gives room to upgrade later

600 watts to one sub should theoretically be the same as 300 watts to two subs.

The theory is that to gain 3db you have to double your current power or add another speaker at equal power.
