whats it mean???

Originally posted by mgaidica When the subwoofer chart says "1.0 CF box" how do I know how to calculate the measurements, I'm taking a wild guess but does that mean idealy you have to have equal to 12inx12inx12in? Meaning you can have 11inx13inx12in? Thanks.
Thisi means it's a recommended box size of 1 cubic ft.

You do not have to use those dimensions if you dont want.

To figure out cubic ft do: Length X Width X Height= "X"

That will give you total cubic inches. Divide "X" by 1728, and that will give you total cubic feet.

Just play around with the dimensions using this formula, until you find a shape you like.

(If you dint understand that, let me know:D )

11 x 13 x 12 is a little less than 12 x 12 x 12, but not alot....

and the 1cu.ft is referring to the inside measurements, so your box would actually need to be 13.5 x 13.5 x 13.5 on the outside so that the inside is 12 x 12 x 12...that is if you're using 3/4" mdf

One more question. When building the box, and even calculating, do I like make a split in the middle, because I'm using 2 subwoofers or do I just build a box with 2.0 CF? I think you know what I'm saying.

Yes, just find the exact middle and run a dividing board down the middle on the inside which will create two chambers.

Use the same material for the divider as the rest of your box.

Don't forget, if you want your box to be 2.0 CF after displacement, you will need to know your sub's displacement and your port displacement. Subtract these from the overall cubic inches, then divide that by 1728.

Originally posted by mgaidica got it, how much better will a box that I build be than a 60 dollar one made out of the same stuff with the same dimensions?
If it is exactly the same, then i would say do it yourself. You can do it cheaper and you will get some hands on experience. The hardest part of building a box seems to be figuring out dimensions and all that, the rest is just basic woodworking skills. You will take more pride in something you build yourself then something you would go out and buy.

true, but I'm having to worry about installing like a whole car system let alone building a custom box? also , i dont have the wood working tools redily availible. Maybe when I get my car I'll see, but I think it would have to be trapezoid and somewhat look custom.
